Job Description

- Support the creation, maintenance, development, and assessment of www.Skidmore.edu websites as a front-end web developer, content manager, and editor.
- Receive, process, and prioritize requests from academic departments and other campus departments, including loading/editing text, editing and uploading images, utilizing pre-coded snippets to lay out and design sites, and other routine maintenance and management functions.
- Proactively monitor websites, independently own a schedule of cyclical updates, and make recommendations to campus leaders and partners to improve websites to ensure they align with the ongoing strategic goals, brand, and messaging of Skidmore College and the Office of Communications and Marketing.
- In coordination with the Web Developer/Programmer, serve as a lead user and administrator of the College’s web content management system, Modern Campus Omni CMS. Train and support web editors in other offices. Interface with freelance or external service partners for designated special projects.
- Collaborate with other members of the Office of Communications and Marketing, particularly members of the Marketing and Engagement team, to support the website components of integrated marketing campaigns. For example, installing advertising tracking pixels, maintaining campaign landing pages, setting up conversion forms or content downloads, and co-owning the College’s primary instance of Google Analytics.
- Support the ad-hoc content creation team within the Office of Communications and Marketing as both a content editor/uploader and best-practice advisor for optimal website experiences.
- Actively monitor websites for malfunction or error and debug and troubleshoot in a timely manner, including occasional after-hours duties in the case of a crash or other web-related crisis.
- Monitor trends and best practices in the higher education industry and work with campus partners (e.g. IT), to maintain and implement inclusive website standards, including ADA compliance.

- Effectively – and sometimes rapidly – implement necessary changes in a responsive and detail-oriented manner using independent judgement while simultaneously considering complex decisions around user experience.
- Use discretion in how best to address issues, questions, or requests from partners across campus, escalating problems or potential issues and opportunities to the proper administrators through clear, timely communications.
- Possess intermediate web coding skills, a demonstrated and solid aptitude for site design and layout, and a keen understanding of web standards, best practices, College policies, and more.
- Keep up with the rapidly changing world of user behavior, the evolution of devices we use to access websites, and the coding systems/tools used to maintain a modern website.
- Uphold a professional manner of engagement while hosting training sessions and coaching other users who will likely have a range of technological acumen.
- Balance multiple priorities and be able to professionally navigate conflicting priorities if they arise, proactively communicating timelines and addressing expectations.
- Develop and maintain personal acumen for specialized and evolving skills, including HTML, CSS, PHP, and JavaScript.
- Regularly collaborate with and coordinate the needs of a range of individuals, including OCM directors and managers, academic department chairs, program directors, and administrative support staff from across all College divisions.
- Work independently with individuals across a range of skill and technological literacy levels in coaching, consulting, and training situations.
- Provide professional guidance and recommendations on website best practices daily, and potentially ‘managing up’ or across units or departments
- Demonstrated knowledge of websites and the roles they play for education users and in driving web visitors to action.
- Intermediate experience in HTML and CSS required. Introductory experience in JavaScript and PHP desired.
- Demonstrated experience and aptitude in building and maintaining websites using a web content management system, e.g. WordPress, Wix, HubSpot, Joomla, Drupal, Magento. Modern Campus Omni CMS experience a plus.
- Comfortable utilizing photo-editing tools, e.g. Adobe Photoshop, to edit and optimize images for uploading to websites.
- Intermediate experience with Google Analytics and a willingness to learn and grow competency in this area.
- Excellent time management, decision making, and organizational skills.

The Web Coordinator is responsible for web administration and front-end web development in support of the College’s many campus partners, with a focus on academic departments. In coordination with the Web Developer/Programmer, the Coordinator will utilize Skidmore’s web content management system (Omni CMS) to create, manage, and maintain college-owned websites. The Coord is also responsible for the strategic and proactive monitoring and assessment of website-wide content and cohesion with brand standards and college priorities and messaging alongside proactive de-bugging, routine testing. The Coord will also be responsible for both the education around, and implementation of, best practices as related to ADA compliance and other College policies. The Coord will also be the primary resource across campus for training and educating other website users on maintaining effective websites. This includes being the lead liaison/trainer for website users. This position is in band Staff.130.

The Skidmore.edu website is one of the largest windows to the world illustrating Skidmore's reputation, brand and image. It is one of the first places prospective families, donors, and employees turn to in order to learn about Skidmore. Outside of e-mail, it is also the most utilized digital resource within the Skidmore campus community and is an essential aspect of the College's business operations. It is thus essential – as it relates to both reputation, compliance, and institutional effectiveness – that Skidmore.edu be managed and maintained at all times. This requires a web team, and particularly this Coordinator, to be able to:
Qualifications and Competencies:
Education: Bachelors degree required. Technical/industry certifications and related internships are a plus.
Experience: 2-4 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
The Web Coordinator must have fundamental knowledge and working experience in various web languages, web tools, and web content management systems.
Skills:
The Web Coordinator works in a typical office environment with frequent incoming requests, emails, or calls for assistance and additional web information.
Pay Range: $26.38 - $28.58 per hour ($48,000 - $52,000 annually) commensurate with experience.
