Shapes bars, rods and blocks of metal using hand or power tools to produce or repair metal articles.

Ignite torches or start power supplies and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits
-
Cuts, shapes, assembles and joins heavy gauge metal parts to produce or repair containers that have to withstand pressure (high pressure vessels, pipe, etc.)

Cuts marked metal sections using hand tools, flame cutting torches, or metalworking machines.
-
Shapes and bends sections and pipes by forging or using hand and machine tools.
-
Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.
-
Constructs or repairs metal products by joining parts manually using a variety of welding methods including electric arc, mig and tig welding or oxy-acetylene welding.

Installs, repairs, tests, and maintains piping systems and cargo hoses.
-
Constructs, installs, repairs, tests and maintains atmospheric storage tanks.

Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.

Possesses the ability to pass welding certification testing as specified in ASME IX.

Familiar with standard welding concepts, practices and procedures.

Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.

Observes safety rules and follows company procedures.

Secondary school Diploma or equivalent required

Associate’s degree or equivalent from two year college or technical school, or related field experience and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience

Welders work an 8 hour rotating shift including weekends and holidays. Working scheduled days off and extended shifts are required when requested by management.

Ability to read and interpret documents furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, quality manuals d procedure manuals.

Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations\

Be able to read and interpret blueprints

Must be able to read a tape measure; be able to identify and measure material

Ability to perform simple shop math, convert decimals to fractional equivalents

Ability to use weld fillet gauges and ensure proper weld size and interpret tolerances

Role Summary:
The welder is should be capable of performing a variety of welding functions. The individual should be familiar with and capable of using various types of welding equipment. A welder is also required to perform other miscellaneous tasks, as supervision deems necessary.
