The South Carolina Department of Agriculture is hiring a Wholesale Food and Produce Sa fety Compliance Officer.

      As a Wholesale Food and Produce Safety Compliance Officer your duties will include:
      • Completing compliance re-inspections of food manufactures, processors, storage facilities, distributors, and salvagers for compliance under the South Carolina Food and Cosmetic Act.
      • Issuing written reports of observed conditions and required corrections to responsible management.
      • In collaboration with the Standardization and Compliance Manager and Manufactured Food Regulatory Program Standards (MFRPS) staff, plan, manage, initiate, and organize compliance and enforcement activities to maintain conformance with Standard 6 of MFRPS.
      • Managing and coordinating the compliance and enforcement activities related to the South Carolina Produce Safety Act.
      • Implementing written enforcement strategies and methods to track critical and chronic violations and violators.
      • Conducting special inspections and investigations for Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) under contract and cooperative agreement.
      • Assisting with duties assigned to perform any duties in assisting and understanding of all MFRPS standards.

      • A bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences (preferably food science) and preferred work experience in food industry.
      • Three (3) years food regulatory inspection experience.
      • Satisfactory completion of MFRPS Standard 2 Basic Inspection Curriculum.
      • Valid state driver's license and the ability to operate a vehicle.
      • Must be a current employee of the SC Department of Agriculture.
      • Must have ability to inspect commodities, food manufacturing or agriculture facilities and equipment.
      • Must have ability to tactfully communicate the regulatory aspects of work directly to firm management, food entrepreneurs, regulatory peers, academia, public and private officials and others as needed.
      • Must have the ability to routinely and repetitively climb ladders and stairs, stoop, twist, lift, and carry up to 50lbs. unassisted and perform duties in extreme heat/cold and endure long periods of walking or standing.
      • Required to report to main office monthly or more often as needed.
      • Must have the ability to read fine print on product labels and prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive oral and written reports.
      • Must have ability to exercise judgment in applying and interpreting policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
      • Must work effectively in a transparent team-oriented environment.
