      This is a Limited Duration Assignment (LDA). Limited Duration Assignments are expected to last up to two (2) years, but may end sooner.

      WIC is a program focusing on nutrition education, breastfeeding support, health and diet screening, growth monitoring, and program referrals for pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women, infants and children up to 5 years of age. WIC serves families from many different cultural and ethnic traditions, languages, backgrounds and abilities. It is designed to promote positive health outcomes, strengthen life course nutrition and health, and reduce health disparities in the populations served. As a Dietitian/ Nutritionist, you will be responsible for providing direct high-risk nutrition counseling, education, care plans, and referrals to WIC participants. Dietitians use dietary, biochemical, medical and anthropometric data to assess medical nutrition needs and provide nutrition/diet counseling and care plans based upon assessment of dietary, medical and lifestyle factors. In this role, the Dietitian provides referrals to the community as appropriate and serves as a consultant to WIC and Health Department staff. All services are provided using participant-centered communication skills in a culturally competent manner.

      As the Dietitian/ Nutritionist , you will:

      • Provide direct high-risk nutrition counseling, education, care plans, and referrals to WIC participants

      • Use dietary, biochemical, medical and anthropometric data to assess medical nutrition needs; and document services in electronic records system

      • Provide nutrition/ diet counseling and care plans based upon assessment of dietary, medical and lifestyle factors

      • Review, assess, and process incoming WIC Medical Documents to ensure clients receive appropriate medical formula and special nutrition supplements; communicate with healthcare providers as needed

      • Promote breastfeeding and provide breastfeeding information at prenatal WIC appointments; provide individualized breastfeeding information and support to breastfeeding mothers

      • Provide referrals to the community as appropriate; serve as content expert for nutrition within the WIC clinic

      TO QUALIFY:

      Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills*:

      Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be as noted below. All non-traditional education,training and experience will be evaluated.

      Education/Training: Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree AND

      Experience: One (1) to four (4) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.

      Other:

      Must be licensed as a Registered Dietitian through the Commission on Dietetic Registration.

      CPR certification is required.

      Preferred Qualifications/ Transferable Skills* : You do not need to have the following preferred qualifications/ transferable skills to qualify. However, keep in mind we may consider some or all of the following when identifying the most qualified candidates.       • Strong skills in pediatric nutrition and public health with an understanding of the WIC Program

      • Experience working with culturally and individually diverse groups

      • Knowledge and understanding of the origins and results of the disparities experienced by individuals and families related to racism and social-economic injustices

      • Spanish Language and Culture Strongly Preferred

However, actual compensation will be determined in accordance with the Oregon Equal Pay Law and will take into account factors such as the candidate's relevant experience and education.
