- Evaluates height, weight, and lab values from medical form.
- Evaluates nutrition intake.
- Evaluates and prioritizes nutrition risks.

- Provides nutrition counseling on WIC WISE generated risks or participant choice.
- Includes breastfeeding encouragement and support education for all pregnant participants.
- Uses motivational interviewing techniques and involves participant in counseling.
- Counseling is focused and time spent is appropriate.
- Appropriate pamphlets and referrals are given.
- Facilitate/conduct group education classes.
- Attend Agency meetings to keep current on participant education topics which includes driving to alternate clinics.

- Document income, address, identification and other certification/recertification information required in WIC WISE.
- Enters all data, labs, height/weight, and demographic information into WIC WISE correctly.
- Enters note in the Care Plan screen for all initial certifications, recertification’s, single trimester, and mid-certification checks.
- The note entered in the Care Plan screen is related to the WIC WISE generated nutrition risk and the appropriate follow up plan is entered when necessary.
- All pregnant participants have a breastfeeding support/encouragement note in the breastfeeding support and notes screen.
- Education contacts are documented on the Nutrition Education screen for each participant.
- Ensure all appropriate documents are signed by the participant.

- Complete initial certifications, re-certifications, mid-certifications, trimester checks, and disqualifications according to WIC Program guidelines.
- Build out the correct food package for the participant.
- Make the correct appointment in the correct clinic for the participant.
- Issue WIC Card following WIC Program guidelines.
- Enter all data into WIC WISE correctly.

- Conduct and track quarterly technical assistance (TA) visits of existing WIC authorized vendors.
- Perform assessments following WIC Program Vendor Unit guidelines.
- Prepares TA reports and send to the WIC Program Vendor Unit.
- Maintains all records of WIC vendor technical assistance (TA) visits for a period of three years as required by State WIC and Federal USDA regulations.
- Assists WIC vendors with ensuring minimum stocking requirements are met.
- Ensures all vendors have valid health permits.
- Assist with training WIC vendor cashiers.
- Conducts on site preauthorization visits of vendors applying to become WIC authorized.
- Conducts shelf price surveys of WIC foods upon request.
- Provides vendors with information about exiting resources, vendor materials, and upcoming WIC Program changes.
- Directs vendors to appropriate State WIC staff for help with their vendor agreement and benefit questions.
- Participates in training provided by the WIC Program and attend vendor training at least once every three years.
- Conducts mandatory trainings for WIC staff.
- Handles participant and vendor complaints.
- Responsible for notifying the State WIC Program when vendors are suspected of fraud or abuse.
- Must have reliable transportation and excellent driving record.
- Update nutrition education boards in clinics.
- Over-see outreach events as needed.
- Rotate/cover WIC clinics depending on staffing.
- Excellent knowledge of California WIC Program Policies and Procedures.

- Successful completion of college course Nutrition 101 or equivalent preferred.
- 1 year of experience working in a community nutrition program preferred.
- State of California WIC Program WIC Nutrition Assistant Certification within 1 year of employment.
- California drivers’ license and current car insurance.

Job Objective:
The WIC Nutrition Assistant Local Vendor Liaison provides nutrition counseling, breastfeeding education and support for WIC participants following California WIC Program guidelines. The WNA/LVL is also responsible to perform Local Vendor Liaison activities outlined in the WIC Contract.
