- Duties listed are at full performance grade GW-07 level.
- Responsible for maintaining operation of the fire engine module when responding to wildland fires and all-hazard incidents. Coordinate repairs and schedule maintenance with approved maintenance facilities.
- Serve as an initial attack Incident Commander on wildland fires and wildland-urban interface/intermix situations. Determine probable causes of fire and preserve evidence of human-caused fires.
- Evaluate fire situations and determine the suppression method to use, including hose lays, deployment of crew, point of initial attack, type of tools to use, and application of water.
- Identify and analyze tactics and strategies employed on incidents and revise and/or develop approaches in view of specific incident conditions.
- Develop and implement training programs (mandatory, formal, and informal) to comply with policy and regulations.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

- Must be 18 years of age.
- This is a drug testing designated position. You will be subject to pre-employment and random drug testing. Appointment is based on a negative result. This announcement constitutes 30 days advance notice.
- Must pass the Work Capacity Test for certain Interagency Fire Program Management or Fire Program Management positions.
- Willing to live/work in remote locations (volatile/unpredictable).
- Some Fire positions may have Conditions of Employment such as: a valid state driver's license; a commercial driver's license (CDL); pre-appointment and random drug testing; or a physical or medical examination.
- There may be additional Conditions of Employment not listed here, however applicants will be notified of any specific requirements at the time a tentative job offer is made.

These positions will be located at a USDA Forest Service Unit.
This Forestry Technician position serves as a full assistant to the supervisor of a Fire Engine Module in areas with the added complexities of wildland-urban interface. The incumbent has primary responsibility for operation of the engine in responding to wildland fires and other projects as assigned.
