      The Jackson Hole Ski Patrol On-Snow Hiring Clinic will be held on March 23rd, 2024 for the Winter 2024-2025 season. Interested Ski Patrol candidates must attend the on-snow hiring clinic to be considered for employment.

      JOB DESCRIPTION

      Position Title: Ski Patroller

      Reports To: Ski Patrol Director

      Department: Ski Patrol

      Classification: FT/Seasonal FLSA

      FLSA Status: Non-exempt

      GENERAL PURPOSE

      Performs all the functions necessary on the physical skiing terrain to safely and efficiently operate the skiing mountain.

      ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

      · Administers first aid.

      · Transports injured and weak skiers.

      · Participates in avalanche hazard reduction and avalanche rescue.

      · Participates in all mountain rescue and lift evacuations.

      · Monitors weather and snow conditions for skier safety.

      · Erects and inspects all mountain signage and barricades for effectiveness and neatness.

      · Assists in speed control and in warning reckless skiers.

      · Conducts trail crew tasks when necessary.

      · Conducts searches for missing persons within the ski area boundaries if weather and snow conditions permit.

      · Assists skiers with lost or broken equipment.

      · Attempts to remove or mark known dangerous obstacles that are not obvious to skier traffic. Takes the initiative to search out and correct such hazards.

      · Attempts to apprehend all violators of closed areas when this is reasonable.

      · Assists skiers who are confused or having trouble.

      · Assists in preparation and patrolling of competitive events.

      · Assists in mountain closure at the end of the skiing day.

      · Provides on-going quality guest relations.

      · Monitors high traffic areas to assist and control speeding or reckless skiers.

      · Educates and warns speeding or reckless skiers when it is deemed necessary.

      · Removes skiing privileges from speeding or reckless skiers when it is deemed necessary.

      · Monitors and improves some of the skiing terrain inaccessible to the grooming fleet.

      · Attempts through wind fencing and snow moving to adequately cover high traffic areas where snow cover is a problem.

      OTHER FUNCTIONS

      Performs other duties as requested.

      JOB QUALIFICATIONS

      KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITY:

      · Strong first aid skills.

      · Strong skiing skills.

      · General mountaineering skills.

      · Strong avalanche hazard reduction and avalanche rescue skills.

      · Ability to function in group working environment.

      EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING:

      · High school or equivalent.

      · Outdoor Emergency Care card or equivalent.

      · Cardiopulmonary resuscitation card.

      EXPERIENCE:

      · On mountain experience at Jackson Hole or strong skiing or mountaineering skills.

      · Prior ski patrol experience is desired.

      MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED:

      · Snow mobiles, first aid and mountain rescue equipment.

      · Explosives.

      WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

      · Extreme winter conditions.

      · Good endurance and physical strength.
