One intern position also has weekend work required, and a few positions may have weekend work available.

      Salary/Wage Range:

      Hourly $20.00 to $20.00

      Position Summary/Job Duties:

      WSLH is seeking 6-8 student interns for Summer 2024 with possible Spring start dates for some. Starting in late May or June, the candidates must have 4 hour to 8 hour blocks of time available weekdays between 7:45-4:30, and ideal candidates will be available 20 or more hours per week. One intern position also has weekend work required, and a few positions may have weekend work available.

      The position could be in: Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Trace Element Clean Lab, Environmental Toxicology, Forensic Toxicology, Water Microbiology, Wastewater Surveillance Program, Sample Receiving or other areas of the WI State Lab. You might be making reagents/standards, doing sample check-in, preparing environmental samples for analysis, analyzing samples, cleaning bottles, doing data entry, maintaining cultures, assisting with validating new tests, preparing sampling kits or other lab/administrative tasks.

      This is an opportunity to gain valuable experience while learning about the variety of services the State Lab of Hygiene conducts as our State’s public health lab. You will also be required to complete a few modules through APHL on general subjects (such as safety and quality) during work time.

      Qualifications:

      APHL requires that you be a current student enrolled in a certificate, associate, bachelors or higher degree. International students are not eligible. This work location is off campus and so you will need reliable transportation. We are looking for responsible, hard-working students with an interest in environmental health!

      Physical demands: Some lab positions are standing much of the day, limited heavy lifting may be required.
