      Job Description

      Position Summary

      The WPE Case Management Assistant will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the Women, Protection and Empowerment (WPE) activities at the safe spaces and implementing the mobile response in the affected areas, as directed by the Integrated Protection Officer, IPO. This will include availability at the safe space to receive and manage cases referred by other actors, IRC staff, community focal points and those who will come themselves to seek the service. The Case Management Assistant will support GBV survivors in the case management process from start to finish and will follow up and advocate for access to other available services.

      Duties and Responsibilities

      The WPE Case Management Assistant, shall perform the following duties and responsibilities under the direct supervision of the IPO:

      A. Technical Input/Support

      • Ensure the supervision, management, and follow-up of survivors' cases at the level of the safe space but also within the target community.
      • Ensure that care activities respects the guiding principles of case management - confidentiality, security, respect for dignity and non-discrimination.
      • Ensure compliance of activities with criteria established by the WPE program, using the WPE program quality checklist.
      • Collect data on reported cases and ensure the availability of essential information on survivors' needs and necessary tools for medical referral or other necessary services (including post-rape kit, confidential and private places, data sheets, etc.)
      • Share a weekly and monthly report of assisted cases with your supervisor.
      • Develop action plans with survivors and ensure implementation, follow-up and case closure.
      • Maintain good relations internally with program staff and externally with other actors involved in GBV, namely medical providers for monitoring, support, and advocacy for access to services.
      • Support the distribution of dignity kits and related activities.
      • Maintain permanent contact with health centers to ensure good medical care, and that the centers have relevant medical supplies and kits for survivors (post-rape kits);
      • Regularly update the GBVIMS data collection tools and share the report with supervisor and the M$E Officer.
      • Ensures the protection and retention of survivor information in a secure and confidential space.
      • Participates in capacity building of case management focal points on guiding principles and psychosocial support, referral to health centers and other available services.
      • Implements, under the supervision of the IPO and in collaboration with the M&E officer, the tools developed for monitoring the quality of the services provided by the health centers and his/her psychosocial focal points.
      • Assists the IPO Officer with the design and development of training modules on relevant topics for focal points and target groups.
      • Follows the guiding principles [respect, confidentiality, non-discrimination, security], and treat survivors with respect and compassion while maintaining confidentiality.
      • Ensures security, safety, and confidentiality of safe spaces in the intervention areas.

      B. Reporting and Coordination

      • Prepare and submit internal periodic reports of project activities as per reporting deadlines (weekly reports, monthly reports, semester reports).
      • Participates in weekly internal coordination meetings as well as external coordination meetings as needed or assigned by supervisor
      • Coordinate and work closely with other NGOs and government services in the areas of intervention to provide a better response to the needs of children and their families
      • Contributes to the development of activities for future projects and grants

      C. General

      • Proactively identify the challenges faced by psychosocial focal points, proposing solutions in line with the objectives and activities of the program.
      • Liaise with the IRC team to ensure good referral of cases between programs.
      • Carry out some assessments in implementing communities as need arises
      • Performs other tasks requested by the WPE Officer or hierarchy.
      • Track complaints and document lessons learned, best practices and success stories.

      All employees are required to respect IRC Cameroon’s security and safety procedures ;

      • Transmit any security information to the hierarchy, supervisor or security focal point ;
      • Inform supervisor of any problem, complaint or information likely to affect or impact programming within the sites of intervention ;

      All IRC staff are required to comply with IRC Standards of Professional Conduct (The IRC Way) as well as IRC Cameroon’s employment policies.

      Qualifications

      Required Academic Qualification and Experience :

      • Technical degree or diploma in social work, psychology, social science or related field. Substantial field experience in Protection Work (WPE, PROL or CP) may be substituted in lieu of academic qualification, as appropriate.
      • Minimum of 1 year working experience in protection or social services with capacity in any of the 3 IRC protection sectors (WPE, General Protection, Child Protection) obtained via previous work for an International NGO
      • Demonstrated understanding of case management with skills in at least one of IRC’s protection sectors (WPE Case Management, Adult Case Management, Child Protection Case Management);
      • Demonstrated understanding of adult protection, and human rights issues, including sexual and gender-based violence affecting women and girls
      • Computer literate, with skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
      • Fluency in English and pidgin English
      • Cameroonian by nationality

      Other Qualities :

      • Positive and professional, including ability to lead and work well within a team;
      • Strong multi-tasking skills, ability to prioritize work and meet competing needs and tight deadlines, and attention to detail ;
      • Creative, flexible, autonomous and organized self-starter
