!*!The Writing Program in the Department of English at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a Writer in Residence in Fiction to begin the fall semester of 2024 for a one-year appointment that can be renewed for a second year by mutual agreement.

The successful candidate will participate actively in one of the oldest and most established Writing Programs in the country. This position will include teaching one graduate course per semester (fall and spring) and service to the program in some capacity such as a public reading and/or craft talk. Applicants should be committed to engaged learning practices, and have experience mentoring students from diverse backgrounds, including students of color, LGBTQ+ students, first-generation college students, and students with disabilities. Applicants with a practice in a secondary field/genre such as nonfiction, poetry, digital media, etc. are strongly encouraged to apply.
Applicants must hold an MFA or Ph.D. in English or creative Writing, or have commensurate professional experience, and must have published at least one book in fiction with trade, university, and/or distinguished small presses; extensive high-quality publications, significant awards and/or fellowships; national reputation within the field; demonstrate evidence of excellent teaching; evidence of institutional and professional engagement, and evidence of their commitment to diversity and inclusion in their pedagogy and practices.
