Job Description

- Content development and editing of existing patient- and consumer- focused web content for the Association and ASA web sites with a focus on addressing three components of "quality relevant content" -- enhancing health literacy through readability / reading level, usability and cultural relevance.
- Writes, edits and formats consumer-related content, including articles and collateral for stakeholders and consumers, such as articles, infographics and fact sheets for a variety of media.
- Edit all content to ensure it is grammatically correct, fact-checked, science approved, consistent with brand style/tone, and is search optimized for its channel.
- Align workflow and production review to ensure delivered materials meet deadlines, content quality and audience requirements.
- Ensures Association's established standards for health literacy and cultural relevance are applied and met for all content being edited and developed.
- Function as the editorial department's resident expert in translation and application of Association's health literacy principles across consumer facing areas of web content.
- Ensures quality control standards and accessibility for Association published information are applied and met through proofing processes.
- Bachelor's Degree English, Writing, Journalism, Marketing, or related area.
- Four (4) + years of the following experience:
- Creating engaging content across various channels and mediums preferred (web content, blogs, newsletters, social media, etc.)
- Ability to understand what an audience needs to know, how they want to consume it, and how to persuade them.
- Experience creating content for B2C, health and/or wellness markets preferred.
- Proven editorial skills and a passion for grammar.
- Understanding of SEO strategy and implementation.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities.
- Two (2) years of knowledge and application of health literacy principles.
- Presentation skills
- Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus, but not mandatory.

The American Heart Association's Content, News and Editorial department is seeking an Editor/Writer for writing, editing and enhancing web content for the Association and ASA websites. This position can be remote/home based.
This position requires high level, independent functioning as well as the ability to develop high-quality content with a focus on enhancing health literacy through readability / reading level, usability and cultural relevance and building an effective, results-driven content strategy.
