      Reports to: WRP 10 Supervisor or WRP 10 Shift Supervisor

      DEFINITION :
      OIT: Under direct supervision, assists with the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant. This is the entry level position for wastewater reclamation plant operators. Trainees will be required to learn basic working knowledge of the District’s Wastewater Reclamation Plant operation.
      Level I: Under direct supervision, assist in the operation of the Wastewater Reclamation Plant, and to perform repair work on facilities when required. This is the first experienced level operator class and will have a complete working knowledge of the District’s wastewater reclamation plant operations.EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
      1. Monitors the operation of wastewater reclamation plant pumps, valves, and other equipment.
      2. Collects wastewater samples for laboratory tests.
      3. Monitors instruments, records readings calculates data, and maintains accurate logs, records, and charts.
      4. Makes visual inspection of plant operations and facilities.
      5. Performs light maintenance and general cleaning of the plant facilities and equipment. Removes grit, sludge and screenings from system and disposes of them.
      6. Assists in changing chlorine tanks, checks for leaks and practices proper safety procedures.
      7. Collects and records Non-potable water meter reads.
      8. Inspects pumps, valves, motors, filters, meters, and related plant equipment.
      9. Collects various water and sewage samples for laboratory analysis and performs basic water quality analysis tests.
      10. Keeps records and prepares necessary reports.
      11. Operates biosolids equipment and performs sludge handling duties.

      Licenses/Certifications :
      Valid California Operators license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles. Department of Motor Vehicles driving record may influence employment or classification.
      AND
      OIT: Must have 6 educational points completed prior to hire and within 24 months of appointment must have acquired a Wastewater Treatment Operator Grade I certification from the California State Water Resources Control Board.
      Level I: Possession of a Grade I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certification issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board, as issued through procedures established by the Board.

      Education and Experience:
      OIT: High School Diploma or Equivalent is required. Any experience that would provide the knowledge and abilities listed below would be qualifying.
      Level I: High School Diploma or Equivalent is required. Any combination of training and experience which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be to have one year experience in wastewater reclamation plant operation comparable to that of a Wastewater Reclamation Plant Operator in Training in the Coachella Valley Water District.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
      1. Drives District vehicle. Driving: Light.
      2. Will have changing days off due to shift schedule. Will work nights, weekends, and holidays when required. Must be available for standby and overtime.
      3. Will work in extreme weather conditions including heat and rain. May work with chemicals, fumes, exhaust, and dust.
      4. Work in confined spaces. Must be able to wear SCBA equipment.
      5. Pass an annual Hazmat physical and become Hazwoper certified as a first responder within 12 months of employment.
      6. Must be able to tolerate District immunization program.
      7. Work in confined spaces as needed.
