- Connecting youth with co-occurring mental illness, substance use and/or developmental disability to link youth to services available through community partners.
- Establishing and improving community partnerships between Community Mental Health Centers and other behavioral health treatment providers to help improve outcomes for youth with behavioral health issues. These may include, the Division of Developmental Disability providers and regional offices, Juvenile Offices and Family Courts, Children’s Division, local schools, local hospitals and local children’s and youth’s service agencies.
- Working to divert youth from inpatient hospitalization and out-of-home placements such as residential treatment centers, juvenile detention, and jail, while supporting youth in natural family and/or community-based setting.
- Coordinating with Access Crisis Intervention (ACI), which may include assisting law enforcement in assessing children and youth with behavioral health needs to assess and coordinate services.
- Participating on local Crisis Intervention Teams (CIT) or other initiatives which assist law enforcement in working with individuals with behavioral health needs.
- Responding to clients experiencing increased symptoms, identifying warning signs, and educating clients on symptom management.
- Leading an evening recovery group through the Lee’s Summit Youth Court on a monthly basis.
- Collect and maintain information about clients and document interactions within ReDiscover’s designated electronic medical record.
- Communicate and collaborate with an internal multi-disciplinary team to address various aspects of wellness and ensure positive communication regarding the coordination of client care.
- 4 year degree in a social science field preferred.
- Must meet the Missouri Department of Mental Health criteria for Community Support Specialist.
- A valid automobile driver’s license, appropriate automobile insurance and a safe, reliable, registered automobile available for use during work.
- Working knowledge of mental illness and substance use disorders.
- Excellent customer service skills with a recovery focus.
- Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
- Intermediate computer skills in typing/keyboarding, Microsoft Word and Excel programs as well as G-Suite.

WHAT WE DO
The Diversion and Intervention Services team partners with law enforcement and courts with the goal of empowering officers and court staff with resources, education, and skills to better respond to persons with mental health issues, as well as to divert unnecessary arrests, court cases, or hospitalizations.
