      Overview

      Do you want to make a difference in someone's life? Seneca is looking for an empathetic Youth Counselor!

      As a Youth Counselor, you will provide crisis support, structure, mentoring, and coaching to youth while providing a safe and nurturing environment. You will collaborate with the treatment team to assist the youth in stabilizing and will perform case management duties as needed. Counselors play a crucial role in providing compassionate and skilled support to children aged 0-17 who have experienced placement disruption and work closely with various stakeholders to secure the best possible placement for each child, emphasizing care coordination and collaboration for optimal outcomes.

      The Welcoming Center is a home-like receiving center that supports children and youth as they navigate the trauma of placement disruption. Our multi-disciplinary team provide safety, care, comfort, and therapeutic support around the clock 24/7.

      The Welcoming Center serves young people in Santa Clara County who:

      Have just been removed from their home | Are returning from elopement | Otherwise experience a loss in placement

      New arrivals are met with empathetic and well-trained therapists and counselors who provide a calm, stable environment while their individualized needs are assessed and placement is secured.

      Responsibilities

      • Assist the treatment team in the intake process, including creating a welcoming environment for the youth and reviewing behavioral expectations
      • Provide behavioral and crisis stabilization services utilizing Seneca’s behavioral model to ensure the safety of the youth
      • Facilitate a life skills group and assist in developing services, strategies, interventions and activities to support the youth across different environments
      • Supervise youth across different environments, providing supervision for visits with family when necessary
      • Promote youth and family connections by partnering with families and community members
      • Plan and lead community-based activities for youth (may include families)
      • Engage the youth in therapeutic activities and projects as well as educational activities
      • Work in collaboration with the parent and/or treatment team members, to implement and assist youth in meeting identified treatment goals
      • Participate in an on-call rotation as needed to support the safety and supervision of youth
      • Complete daily progress notes and incident reports as needed and outlined by Seneca’s policies and procedures

      Qualifications

      • Bachelor's degree required
      • Experience working with youth in residential care preferred

      • Bilingual inSpanish or Vietnamesse preferred

      • Must be at least 21 years of age.
      • Own vehicle, California Driver's License, and insurance
      • TB test clearance, fingerprinting clearance, and any other State/Federal licensing or certification requirements
      • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination

      Schedule

      • Full time
      • Saturday 12:00 pm- 12:00 am
      • Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 3:00 pm-12:00am

      Benefits

      • Starting at $25.75 - $28.25 an hour
        • As of July 7th, this starting range will increase to $26.52 - $29.02
      • Actual salary dependent on creditable experience above the minimum qualification
      • Additional compensation provided upon passing bilingual language proficiency exam
