- Contributes to and supervises the fulfillment of the YMCA mission through the Youth Department activities and programs.
- Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community partners, organizations and school community.
- Supports the overall vision for youth, branch and association initiatives.
- Plans and promotes high quality and engaging programming for assigned programs, with an emphasis on safety, relationships, skill development, character development, group control and fun.
- Plans and organizes day-to-day operations and is present in assigned programs based on Association Program Guidelines, which include daily program and schedules.
- Schedules, trains and manages staff for all programs under their direction. Ensures timesheets are correct and processed for payroll in a timely fashion.
- Continually evaluates, improves, and innovates all assigned programs to ensure they meet or exceed Association guidelines and standards.
- Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility. This includes regular visits with Principals or Assistant Principals, and involvement in the PTA.
- Maintains all records of their assigned programs that are necessary for the operation of the department and branch effectively.
- Recruits and hires staff and volunteer teams across multiple dimensions of diversity. Responsible for onboarding and developing them for success.
- Maintains current and required certifications and records for staff according to the YMCA of the Triangle requirements.
- Attends all meetings that are pertinent to this position including Y Leadership trainings, Youth Director Meetings, Director Meetings, and relevant task forces and affinity groups.
- Assists with the YMCA Annual Campaign through aiding in the development of staff team, recruiting volunteers and meeting annual fundraising goals as assigned.
- Fulfills department/branch obligations as required by supervisor/Branch Director i.e. large youth events, trainings, etc.
- Serve as the Engagement Team Director approximately one weekend every quarter and one morning approximately every three weeks.
- Maintains a flexible work schedule, including evening and weekends as needed.
- Continually engages creatively in ways to implement and achieve the 5 Pillars of the SE Raleigh Purpose Built Community in all program areas.
- Direct Program Oversight and Leadership/Additional Responsibilities:
- Before School, After School at Rogers Lane Elementary
- Tracking Out Track 4 at the Southeast Raleigh YMCA
- Alongside the Hunter & Bugg Youth Director, shares leadership over Teacher Workday & Holiday Care at the Southeast Raleigh YMCA.
- Serves as the Onsite Assistant Camp Director for all onsite camps (Camp K & Sports Camp) and directly supports Southeast Raleigh Sports Camp.
- Alongside other SE Raleigh Youth Directors, shares direct leadership of the Scholastic Support Center (or any/all additional remote learning programs) at the SE Raleigh YMCA.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
- Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred and/or 1-2 years of related experience.
- Experienced in and passionate about creating and fostering communities and relationship building through programs.
- Demonstrated experience in program and personnel development.
- Ability to effectively manage staff, programs, and department schedules.
- Oral, public speaking and written communication skills.
- Requires a positive attitude, high level of initiative and professionalism, and enjoy working in and creating a strong team environment.
- Demonstrate initiative, effectively prioritize, and possess strong organizational skills.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
- Multi-lingual desired but not required.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use a computer for extended periods of time and be able to communicate using a computer and phone/smart device.
- The employee frequently is required to sit and reach, and must be able to move around the work environment.
- The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- BLS, AED, O2 and First Aid certifications and a commercial Driver’s License, with “P” endorsement, in order to drive a YMCA bus as needed.
- The YMCA of the Triangle requires employees to comply with all COVID related PPE, cleaning, reporting and prevention expectations efforts. Further training and detail will be provided upon question.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Senior Youth Director, the Youth Director is responsible for leading and developing assigned Youth Programs and Youth staff. They must run the program with safety in the forefront. The Youth Director is responsible for managing the functions of the program in accordance with the stated mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.
The Southeast Raleigh 32-acre site represents the collective vision of a partnership among organizations that invest in neighborhoods to create a community that includes affordable housing, a school, and other healthy options, in addition to our YMCA.
