      Job Description

      The role of Youth Engagement Officer is an exciting opportunity to support the coordination and delivery of two current projects (HATCH and NCS). This role will predominately be home based with regular travel and delivery in Telford & Wrekin (main area), Birmingham, Staffordshire, and Shropshire .

      *This role requires access to a car, and a full driving licence.

      Main Duties and Accountabilities

      HATCH

      HATCH (commissioned by UK Youth) runs in partnership with KFC to provide employability workshops and paid work experience placements for young people, aged 16-25, who are not in education, employment, or training. Young people are required to complete pre-employment workshops with us at Catch22, before starting 4 weeks of paid work experience at KFC.

      • Engaging with commissioners, placement managers, employers, job centre contacts, participants, and Catch22 colleagues.
      • Leading on contact with young people; providing recruitment, sign-up, on-boarding, and in-placement support throughout the programme.
      • Providing effective 1-1 and group support, to achieve programme KPI’s (including recruitment targets, pre-employment workshop attendance, placement completion rates)
      • Facilitating pre-employment workshops, supporting the progress of young people into a placement with KFC.

      NCS

      National Citizen Service (NCS) is a flagship policy at the heart of the coalition government’s vision for building a big society. NCS aims to support participants’ personal and social development, helping them to develop the confidence, skills and attitudes that they need to take on active roles in their communities and develop themselves for their own future. The NCS community grants programme is an all year round programme, aimed at 16-17 year olds, to help them to develop employability, independent living and social action skills.

      • Providing recruitment and retention support to young people; delivering employability and skills sessions to young people and working with groups of young people to plan and deliver social action projects in their communities.
      • Supporting recruitment-based data gathering from schools and community organisations.
      • Acting as a liaison between participants, parents, and relevant stakeholders.
      • NCS may include evening and weekend work where necessary.

      Shared

      • Supporting with the planning and coordination of the HATCH and NCS community grants programmes.
      • Offering a high standard service to young people/participants, parents, and stakeholders; providing accurate information, demonstrating a professional and supportive approach.
      • Assisting internal staff, to ensure that appropriate safeguarding, data handling, health and safety and other legal requirements are in place.
      • Monitoring and evaluating programme outcomes, providing feedback for continuous improvement.

      Qualifications

      We are looking for applications who can demonstrate the following qualifications, knowledge, experience, and skills:

      • Educated to A Level, or equivalent.
      • Knowledge of relevant youth policies and legislation, including health and safety, safeguarding and data handling practices
      • Substantial experience of supporting the planning, delivery, and evaluation of activities, both for and with young people.
      • Experience and understanding of the issues affecting young people who are at risk of social exclusion/offending.
      • Strong oral and written communication skills, with experience of working in partnership to build effective working relationships, with a variety of agencies.

      Additional Information

      Salary: £25,000 per annum
      Hours of work: Full time, 37 hours per week
      Contract: Fixed term, until 31st December 2024*
      Place of work: Home based, with regular travel and delivery across Telford & Wrekin (main area), Birmingham, Staffordshire, and Shropshire.

      *Access to a car and a full driving licence are a requirement of this role.

      *Potential for extension dependent on funding.
