      Job Description

      The MLSE LaunchPad team prides itself on living the value of ‘youth first, always’ and driving community connection to, and involvement in, MLSE LaunchPad. The responsibility of the Youth Outreach Worker will be engaging and building relationships with youth ages 6 to 29 in the communities we serve, acting as a liaison between youth, family, community and LaunchPad, leading and supporting programs, and connecting young people to services and supports both within LaunchPad and the broader community.

      There are two (2) Youth Outreach Worker roles available, each has a slightly different focus as listed below:

      1. Promoting youth engagement at MLSE LaunchPad by connecting with local youth that are not currently involved in programming at MLSE LaunchPad.
      2. Prioritize the engagement of emerging communities of focus through collaboration with community partners.

      Responsibilities

      • Collaborate across LaunchPad colleagues and community partners to identify and prioritize opportunities for youth outreach and engagement.
      • Develop, maintain, and strengthen relationships with youth (ages 6 to 29), organizations and communities.
      • Be a visible presence in community, representing MLSE LaunchPad, and connecting with young people where they are at.
      • Engage in outreach, program development, support and facilitation, and connection on-site at MLSE LaunchPad to deepen youth relationship development and engagement.
      • Act as a connector for supporting youth to navigate the broader system of organizations, activities, programs and services that can best meet their needs.
      • Build and maintain relationships and strong communication channels with organizations, activities, programs and services that can support youth.
      • Foster deepened integration of youth voice into the ongoing refinement of LaunchPad’s programs and initiatives.
      • Support the handling of incidents in our space including follow up with family and community partners as needed. Use a trauma-informed, strengths-based approach to accountability and restoration.
      • Share insights, learning and best practices with the broader MLSE staff team on ways to best support the needs of youth within the communities we serve.

      Qualifications

      • Experience working with youth.
      • Enjoy working with young people, are familiar with issues and challenges they may face, and have the knowledge and skills to support them effectively.
      • Strengths-based approach to engaging with young people and community, and a desire to support them to grow and thrive.
      • Strong understanding of all relevant policy and legislation including but not limited to workplace standards and policies, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
      • Excellent understanding of, and connection to, the communities we serve and aspire to create equitable, high impact opportunities for their participation.
      • Enjoy connecting and building relationships with young people, families and community partners
      • Ability to enable others to do their best, and have familiarity with applying anti-oppressive, anti-colonial and anti-racist principles and engage in continued learning in these areas.
      • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
      • Skilled in conflict resolution should it arise and have a passion for engaging both internal and external stakeholders in ways that invite their insights, support transparency and accountability.
      • Able to always exercise diplomacy and tact.

      Extras that can support your application:

      • Familiarity with the Stages of Change model, harm reduction practices and promoting assets, competencies and resiliency for youth who have been marginalized.
      • Previous experience working in, or have strong familiarity with, the Moss Park neighbourhood and downtown East side of Toronto.
      • Completed a Social Service Worker, Child and Youth Worker or similar program.
      • Certification in First Aid, Mental Health First Aid and/or Crisis Prevention & Intervention (CPI).
      • Currently have, or are willing to get, a Vulnerable Sector Check.
      • Ability access to reliable transport for travel within the GTA.
