      POSITION OVERVIEW

      The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) Youth Worker serves as a liaison between El Barrio’s Operation Fightback (the provider) and the SYEP worksites at which adolescents aged 16-24 are placed for summer employment. The Youth Worker is stationed on-site at EBOF’s headquarters 5 days a week and will travel regularly, during work hours, to assigned offsite locations to monitor the progress of SYEP participants. The position includes both fieldwork and administrative functions in office. The Youth Worker reports to EBOF’s Youth Services Manager.

      KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

      • Assist with recruitment, application, and enrollment of SYEP applicants;
      • Use the web-based SYEP database to conduct assigned duties;
      • Develop assessment and service plans with assigned participants and worksites;
      • Conduct weekly site monitoring visits to each assigned worksite and complete worksite monitoring reports;
      • Provide assistance, support service referrals, and monitor the progress of the participants assigned to worksites;
      • Collect and ensure the accuracy of participant timesheets and assist with entering into the payroll system;
      • Use the worksite agreement and participant code of conduct to resolve conflicts, encourage contract compliance, and be a liaison between the worksite and the participant; and
      • Perform all other assigned, pertinent tasks expressed or implied in this job description.
      • Frequent travel between worksites is required (a weekly MetroCard is provided)

      REQUIREMENTS

      • High School Diploma
      • One (1) year experience working with youth, or a satisfactory combination of work experience and college courses (current college students or recent college graduates are strongly preferred);
      • Strong written and verbal communication skills
      • Good knowledge of travel options within New York City (especially East Harlem/Manhattan) to effectively travel between worksites;
      • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to work in a high volume environment;
      • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and the ability to quickly learn web-based YEPSonline database and payroll system is required;
      • Applicants must be cleared to work with minors via a background check conducted at EBOF’s expense.
