- Enrolled in full-time studies at an accredited secondary or post-secondary institution within the past six (6)-months;
- Experience working in a group of two (2) or more to complete a project or task during an academic, work, community, Nation or volunteer experience. Preference may be given to candidates who have experience completing projects or tasks in the outdoors and/or involve a component of safety planning;
- Between 18 - 30 years of age;
- Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada;
- Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations;
- This position requires you to have a valid FULL BC driver’s license (minimum class 5), or an equivalent class driver's license from another province or jurisdiction.
- Must participate and successfully pass the training requirements at the program training event;
- Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service, which may include a criminal records check, and/or Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) check, and/or enhanced security screening checks as required by the ministry (Note: It is important that you read the job posting carefully to understand the specific security screening requirements pertaining to the position).

The Student Ranger Crew Member position is responsible to work within a crew tasked with the delivery of meaningful conservation, recreation, cultural, and outreach-related projects in BC Parks and Protected Areas. Crew Members will be led by a Crew Lead and other BC Parks staff to perform project work. The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy / BC Parks has created the BC Parks Student Ranger Program to promote outdoor youth employment opportunities across the province.For the 2024 season, the BC Parks Student Ranger Program will see a minimum of 48 students employed in BC Parks across the province from May to August. Eligible candidates for the 2024 season are Canadian Citizens, between the ages of 18 and 30, that have been enrolled in full-time studies (secondary or post secondary) within the last 6-months. BC Parks encourages students from Indigenous backgrounds to apply for these positions.
A minimum of twelve crews will be recruited, hired and employed by BC Parks across the province. Confirmed locations for crews during the 2024 season include: Victoria (Goldstream Provincial Park), Black Creek (Miracle Beach Provincial Park), Chilliwack, Squamish, Nelson, Penticton, Kamloops, Wells Gray, Prince George, Fort St John, Smithers, and Terrace, Port McNeil, Mount Robson
Further details about each location can be found in the Appendix located in the Additional Information section at the bottom of the posting. NOTE: We are currently finalizing our needs for the upcoming season and additional locations are being considered. Additional locations being considered Muncho Lake/Liard River Hot Springs, Hagensborg, and Port Renfrew. We will notify impacted candidates once a decision has been made.
What to expect:
Being a Student Ranger is a great opportunity to work outside for the summer, learn new skills, meet new people and be engaged in rewarding work. Being a Student Ranger provides youth with an opportunity to live and work in beautiful places of British Columba.
Each crew will consist of 1 Crew Lead and 3 Crew Members. Each regional crew will work within their respective region on various BC Parks related projects. Crew Member positions begin May 12th, 2024 and run until August 17, 2024. All successful applicants will be expected to attend a Program Training event from May 13-17, 2024. Details on this training will be provided at the offer of employment.
The job can be physically challenging at times, but the result of a crew’s hard work can be extremely rewarding. Crew Leads and Crew Members can expect to be out in the field nearly all working days, participating in various projects in the areas of Conservation, Recreation, Indigenous Relations, and/or Public Outreach where possible.
