Finding clothes that fit is a challenging topic in the e-commerce fashion industry. As a Software Engineering Intern or a Working Student in the Size and Fit Team, you will be part of a team working on an exciting Virtual Fitting Room solution to provide customers with a convenient and accurate experience for online clothes shopping. In your role, you will be converting real-world problems into mathematical models and designing algorithms that solve such models. Beyond algorithmic challenges, a significant part of your role will be dedicated to creating and maintaining the software systems required to run the algorithms. Here, you will have to ensure that the system adheres to the latest software engineering standards. Ultimately, you will enable personalized size and fit experiences for customers to find the right fit the first time, return less and reduce carbon emissions. The Size and Fit team works across Zurich and Berlin locations in a multidisciplinary collaboration between applied scientists, engineers, product managers, product designers and business teams. Together we work passionately towards closing the gap between textile manufacturers and customers through innovation, science and delivering great customer experiences. WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING)

• Be part of the full software development cycle: design, implement, deploy and maintain important software solutions that impact customers.

• Create best-of-class user experience for our customers in collaboration with product design and UX/UI design.

• Contribute in developing robust and automatic 3D cloth simulation and a real-time web-based 3D renderer.

• Evaluate and introduce new technologies to the team and together we build exciting customer-facing technical innovation.

• Collaborate with experienced engineers and stakeholders.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

• You are currently studying as a Master of Science, or have recently completed your Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or equivalent field.

• Your interest and background lie in one or more of the following areas:

• Computer graphics and 3D rendering (rendering pipeline, WebGL);

• Computational geometry and 3D mesh processing;

• Developing models for physics-based simulation (cloth simulation, FEM).

• You have a first practical experience with Python, TypeScript or Rust.

• You have an understanding of 3D geometry and 3D mesh manipulation.

• Familiarity with web technologies such as React, Nodejs is a plus.

• You have motivation to tackle challenging topics and have ambitions to grow to become a Software Engineer.

ABOUT SIZE & FIT

At Zalando, we deeply understand that Size Matters , and are excited to use our unique and huge article and customer datasets to tackle this challenge using novel ML techniques. How about you; would you like to bring in your skills to shape a great experience for your family and friends when buying clothes and shoes online?

You will join our multidisciplinary Zurich & Berlin-based Size and Fit Team, composed of machine learning / deep learning researchers, software engineers, and full stack developers from 20 different nationalities. We provide recommendations and predictions on customer size and fit choices and conduct focused experiments using emerging technologies to solve the challenges.

You will take on this complex and important topic working side by side with our Product Specialists. We have great problems to solve, a huge customer base to impact and are a team that loves to have fun. Size and Fit is a human topic. We use machines to help solve our customers’ challenges. But we never forget - size and fit success is defined by how customers feel when they wear fashion
