      The purpose of this position is to support the development, implementation, and certification of safety processes for Terminal Tractors. This role is responsible for providing expert guidance on safety throughout the entire product lifecycle, from design to decommissioning.

      Responsibilities
      • Own the functional safety concept for our automated terminal tractor platform.
      • Lead safety case development for compliance with all related standards.
      • Perform and oversee safety analyses such as FMEA, FTA, and FMEDA with engineering teams and suppliers.
      • Validate and verify that safety systems meet all specified requirements and performance standards.
      • Act as the authority on safety-critical decisions, including the power to mandate design changes.
      • Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, mechanical, software, and validation teams to ensure end-to-end system safety.
      • Serve as the primary subject matter expert for the safety of autonomous systems, with a deep focus on UL 4600.
      • Develop and maintain a safety case for autonomous products in accordance with UL 4600.
      • Apply the principles of functional safety to the electrical and electronic (E/E) systems.
      • Coordinate with 3rd party certifying agencies by preparing all necessary documentation for external safety certification.
      • Create and maintain comprehensive safety documentation, including safety manuals, risk assessment reports, and technical files.
      • Develop and implement a safety requirements traceability matrix to link safety requirements to design, validation, and verification activities.
      • Manage version control and change management processes for all safety-related documentation.
      Essential Skills
      • Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
      • 4+ years of proven experience in machinery safety engineering or a related field.
      • Demonstrated experience in applying UL 4600.
      • Experience taking ASIL-B+ systems through FMEDA development.
      • Experience performing or reviewing FMEA, FMEDA, and fault trees.
      • Comfortable working with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS, Jira/Confluence).
      • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail.
      • Proficiency in using documentation tools and software (e.g., Google Suite, Adobe Acrobat, Confluence).
      • Strong understanding of requirements engineering principles and methodologies.
      • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
      • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
      • Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
      Additional Skills & Qualifications
      • Mobile equipment experience is a plus.
      • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to mobile equipment is a plus.
      • Experience with requirement management tools is a plus.
      Work Environment

      The team consists of over 25 engineers, with 18-20 based in Ottawa and others spread globally. The work schedule is Monday through Friday during the day. The dress code is typical for a manufacturing environment, with pants and polo/button-down shirts. The position is based in an Ottawa manufacturing facility, which also serves as the Global R&D headquarters.

      The pay range for this position is $180000.00 - $200000.00/yr.
