- Advance the field of quantum algorithms and their applications to optimization, machine learning and financial use cases
- Provide novel research solutions to problems faced by internal project teams
- Work with other researchers to document your findings in scientific papers
- Contribute to JPMC’s IP by pursuing necessary protections of generated IP
- 1+ years of experience with quantum computing
- Enrolled in a Master’s or Ph.D. degree program in math, science, engineering, computer science or related fields
- Experience in scientific technical writing
- Demonstrated research ability
- Proficiency in Python
- Strong communication skills and the ability to present findings to a non-technical audience
- Experience in one or more following domains:
- Theory of quantum information (query complexity)
- Quantum algorithms for optimization (QAOA, quantum adiabatic algorithm, quantum walks)
- Quantum algorithms for machine learning (quantum algorithms for linear systems, PCA, classification)
- Quantum linear algebra (LCU, QSVT)
- Simulation of quantum algorithms (MPS, PEPS, tensor networks)
- Variational quantum algorithms
- Quantum-inspired algorithms
- No prior familiarity with finance or financial use cases required
- Preference is given to candidates with a strong publication record. We encourage candidates to include a link to their Google Scholar or Semantic Scholar profile in their resume
JPMorgan Chase’s Global Technology Applied Research team conducts research in cutting-edge emerging technologies, such as Quantum Computing and Communication, Cloud Computing and Networking, Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR), Pervasive and Ubiquitous Computing (Ubicomp), Internet of Things (IoT), Security and Privacy, Computer Vision, and Edge Computing. Our firm is seeking a passionate junior or senior researcher and thought leader to perform applied research and development of novel solutions in these fields. As a key member of the GT Applied Research R&D team, you will work closely with internal project teams, senior management, and external communities alike in a way that is beneficial to the technical teams in the company. You will cultivate investigations into these areas, produce research solutions in collaboration with the internal project teams, and contribute to the firm’s intellectual property and scientific reputation by producing patent applications and scholarly articles.
What to Expect
As a summer associate, your role will begin in June 2024, depending on your academic schedule. Your professional growth and development will be supported throughout the internship program via project work related to your academic and professional interests, mentorship, interaction with senior stakeholders and more. Our areas of focus include quantum computing, quantum algorithms and applications of quantum computing, as well as Post Quantum Cryptography and Quantum Key Distribution. Full-time employment offers may be extended upon successful completion of the program.
