    • Drives a small Type-A school bus with 14 passengers or less. Picks up and drops off students at home or designated stops and schools.
    • Inspects buses for safety and proper operation in accordance with local and state regulations.
    • Fuels buses.
    • Monitors and assists with maintaining students’ behavior, safety, and medical needs on the school bus.
    • Cleans and sanitizes buses.
    • Communicates regularly with parents, supervisors, school staff, co-workers, and students.
    • Completes all required paperwork including route changes, MIPS, mileage reports, and student counts.
    • Supports the relationship between the Phoenix Union High School District and the public by demonstrating courteous and professional behavior when interacting with students, parents, visitors, and school staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and school information; follows Governing Board Policies; performs all other related duties as required or assigned.
    • Ability to interact and relate to students who require specialized transportation.

      SMALL BUS DRIVER (NON-CDL)
      DEPARTMENT: Transportation SALARY SCHEDULE: Education Support Professionals
      LOCATION: DSF WORK YEAR: 9 Months

      Starting hourly rate of pay range: $21.41 - $22.39, salary placement is dependent on similar experience held and education

      SUMMARY

      The small bus driver transports students (general education and exceptional students) between home and school in a safe and timely manner in a Type-A school bus designed to carry fewer than 15 passengers. The small bus driver will also provide transportation for special programs and activities as assigned.

      ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

      1. Drives a small Type-A school bus with 14 passengers or less. Picks up and drops off students at home or designated stops and schools.

      REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

      Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:

      High School diploma or GED equivalent; AND one (1) year experience in the operation of buses or large vehicles desired.

      License and Certification Requirements:
      A valid Arizona State Driver’s license is required.
      Must obtain DPS school bus certification within 14 days of employment and maintain certification.
      A valid IV Fingerprint Clearance Card.
      Possess current First-Aid and CPR certificates at the time of employment or obtain them within the first ten (10) days of employment and maintain current status.

      PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

      Work is performed on a small, Type-A school bus along designated routes. Work requires climbing up and down stairs, bending, kneeling, crouching, or stooping, pulling, and may require lifting up to 100 lbs. Employees may experience hot and cold temperatures, hazardous chemicals, and infectious diseases.
