      Job summary

South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Cancer Alliance is one of 19 Cancer Alliances working across England to drive the changes needed to improve services, care and outcomes for everyone with cancer. We bring together a range of organisations to help ensure the best possible cancer care in South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw. These include NHS organisations, local councils, charities, and patient groups.

Our Cancer Alliance is part of NHS South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board. The Integrated Care Board (ICB) is a statutory NHS organisation responsible for developing a plan for meeting the health needs of the South Yorkshire population, managing the NHS budget and arranging for the provision of health services in the area. ICBs replaced clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) in July 2022. Our ICB is called NHS South Yorkshire.

This post will be hosted by Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust but be a pivotal role within the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Cancer Alliance. The Alliance is committed to personalised care ensuring that what matters to people affected by cancer is at the heart of cancer care and support. Personalised care is the golden thread that should run through every aspect of the patients experience, but we recognise there is still work to do before this is fully realised. Achieving this will require strong partnerships and a proactive approach.

      Main duties of the job

The Macmillan Personalised Care Transformation Lead will develop our strategic approach to Personalised Care and Support further, with a singular aim to affect real transformational changes that will fully embed it in every cancer pathway and at every stage optimising patient experience and quality of life. The post will provide senior, system facing, strategic leadership to help us achieve this aim; and as such will require a passionate, inspirational leader within the role.

The post holder will work as part of the core Cancer Alliance team to lead the development of our onward Personalised Care and Support Programme.

By the end of Year 1 the postholder will have coordinated work to scope the current delivery of Personalised Care and Support across SYB, drawing out the evidence and intelligence base to inform ICB approved recommendations related to how we might better embed PCS across our cancer pathways. There will be a specific emphasis on exploring the role of the voluntary sectorand optimising opportunities for partnership working, as well as co-production with people affected by cancer.

The Year 2 priority will focus on developing the subsequent Programme of work to inform how we then deliver an improved, integrated model (with clear cross-reference to the wider SY Cancer Strategy currently in development).

  • About the company

National Health Service (NHS) is the umbrella term for the publicly-funded healthcare systems of the United Kingdom (UK). The founding principles were that services should be comprehensive, universal and free at the point of delivery—a health service based on clinical need, not ability to pay. Each service provides a comprehensive range of health services, free at the point of use for people ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom apart from dental treatment and optical care.
