      Job Description:

      Summary
      The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (CBE) at Iowa State University is looking for dedicated individuals to join us as an Academic Advisor I or II. The Academic Advisor plays a key role in recruiting, retaining, and enhancing the academic experience of undergraduate students.

      Key Responsibilities and Duties:

      • Assisting undergraduate students with scheduling, registration, degree audits and course selection, and interpreting academic policies and procedures.
      • Referring students to appropriate resources for assistance with academic success, counseling, financial aid, study abroad, career opportunities, etc.
      • Teaching orientation courses.
      • Supporting recruitment activities such as providing information to prospective students and their parents during individual and group visit days; participating in student orientation sessions; and ensuring proper placement in courses.
      • Working collaboratively with other academic advisors and staff to deliver programming aimed at student success

      Additional Key Responsibilities as an Academic Advisor II:

      • Develops course materials for orientation courses
      • Coordinates learning community programs, including supervising peer mentors
      • Serves as a resource for other academic advisors within the department
      • Develops programming aimed at student success
      • Serves on university, college and departmental committees

      This position will be filled at the Academic Advisor I or II level, depending on the candidate's experience.

      Academic Advisor I

      • Minimum requirements: Bachelor's degree

      • Compensation Grade: PS805

      Academic Advisor II

      • Minimum requirements: Bachelor's degree and 2 years of related experience

      • Compensation Grade: PS806

      Level I Guidelines
      • Individual contributor position with developing professional and/or technical skills working under immediate to general supervision
      • Grasps professional-level knowledge and concepts of field while working in a progressive learning mode
      • Works on problems and issues of somewhat limited scope
      • Follows standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data for which answers are available or can be obtained
      • Responds to inquiries and issues, escalating to manager or higher level workers as appropriate
      • May lead projects of limited scope and complexity
      • May provide guidance to students

      Level II Guidelines
      • Intermediate-level position with solid professional and/or technical skills working under general supervision to achieve goals
      • Applies broad, working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex, difficult, and varied problems and issues
      • Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems
      • Responds to a broad range of inquiries and requests
      • May provide training and/or direction to lower-level staff
      • May lead projects of moderate scope and complexity
      • Provides guidance to students

      Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
