      Purpose of the Position:

      The Academic Advisor I/II will serve as a resource for College of Science students, faculty, staff and community.

      Duties/Responsibilities
      ● Meeting with students in person or virtually, 8 or more meetings per day and being available for “Walk-in” advising appointments.
      ● Actively listening and providing individual service and assistance during advising appointments and through email exchanges.
      ● Becoming or displaying proficiency in accessing and using UAH student centered software including my.uah.edu, UAH Course catalog, Degree Works, Banner, and Google Suite.
      ● Becoming knowledgeable about majors and minors in the College of Science, and guide students in accordance with their interests using UAH student centered software.
      ● Becoming conversant with UAH courses, including Charger Foundations, and applies transfer credits, AP/IB credits, and placement exams to a student’s advantage.
      ● Assisting students with course registration using Schedule Planner software and other relevant registration methods.
      ● Monitoring student progress through creating, maintaining, and updating a personalized long-range plan for each student.
      ● Analyzing each student’s long-range plan at least twice a year (January/May/September). Includes reviewing each student’s transcript, Degree Works profile, and tracking their overall degree progress.
      ● Updating student information using Native Banner software to reflect accurate degree information.
      ● Displaying sensitivity in addressing the unique and sometimes complex learning and socioeconomic needs of students.
      ● Gaining familiarity with and directing students to UAH resources such as Career Services, Student Health Center, and the Student Success Center.
      ● Reviewing reports including failed pre-requisites, Course Program of Study (CPOS), and non-registered students three times a year.
      ● Reviewing the override request form and entering overrides as needed.
      ● Communicating with students who appear on reports and assists them so they can be successful and continue to pursue their degrees.
      ● Adjusting a student’s Degree Works profile as needed to assist students with their Financial Aid concerns.
      ● Identifying students who may benefit from academic assistance to reach good standing (i.e., a 6th course repeat, a late withdrawal, etc.).
      ● Meeting with prospective students in person or virtually, and being available to for “Walk-in” advising appointments.
      ● Advising students during COS orientation sessions.
      ● Participating in outreach activities which may include Discovery Days, Charger Preview events, and Week of Welcome.
      ● Assisting in First year experience (FYE)/Charger Success presentations related to Degree Works and GPA.
      ● Becoming an active member of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) and attending 1 conference a year as possible for professional development.

      Minimum Requirements:

      ● Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education & years of experience.
      ● 0-2 years or more of full-time verifiable Academic Advising work experience or experience working in an educational or office setting.
      ● Proficiency with MS Office tools and Google Suite
      ● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
      ● Ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks
      ● Ability to work flexible hours.

      Desired Qualifications:

      ● Master's degree is preferred
      ● Experience in higher education academic environment.

      Published Salary (if available):

      $40,000 - $42,500
