Execute CDLE’s accessibility strategy through engaging stakeholders including leadership, Human Resources, Communications and Design, Equity Diversity and Inclusion groups, product managers and owners, technology teams, and the Office of Information Technology (OIT). Secure the necessary resources, align accessibility and business objectives, and reinforce the strategy. Communicate and publish CDLE’s accessibility strategy ensuring alignment with departmental and statewide goals.
Create objectives in response to the accessibility strategies and problems goals. Develop measurable objectives that address accessibility goals and gaps within the organization’s technology portfolio, web content, processes, and policies. Clarify what activities need to be planned, define required deliverables, and ensure that successful delivery can be determined with a plan for sustainability.
Create a policy framework and workflows by collaborating with stakeholders to build accessibility throughout the agency, define success, and formulate success metrics. Communicate metrics to stakeholders across the agency.
Oversee accessibility testing and mitigation across the agency’s technology and website portfolio including working with product owners and leadership in prioritizing their applications and deciding on testing paths.
Monitor budget associated with implementation of accessibility strategy and within constraints of prioritized testing and mitigation efforts.
Lead an accessibility-focused committee across the department to generate feedback, empower users to solve accessibility challenges, and assist in creation of policies, procedures, training, etc.
Create a training plan for the Accessibility Program for CDLE staff in various roles. Coordinate with Organizational Development and Training (ODT) on delivery across multiple roles as well as OIT in alignment with training that is being developed to ensure accessibility is fully embedded in the agency.
Manage relationships with vendors , OIT and CDLE technology teams for accessibility testing, backlog prioritization of accessibility defects, and other accessibility services.
Develop accessibility standards and best practices for CDLE and act as consultant for the agency for current WCAG standards and assist with problem solving complex accessibility issues.
Experience implementing digital accessibility;
Knowledge and experience using Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) to audit and mitigate digital content;
Effective management of one or more projects of large, strategic, and complex initiatives
Current or former State experience relevant to this position.
International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) Certification(s)
Demonstrated project management experience in a large organization.
Knowledge and experience in accessibility requirements, including ADA rules, regulations, standards.
Experience training and relaying information to employees and stakeholders in an easy to understand manner.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strategic mindset to set objectives and goals at the programmatic level; the ability to define success and develop metrics as well as see process and program gaps
Creative problem solving abilities to work through complex problems
Ability to independently research gaps in knowledge
Stakeholder management skills with emphasis on inclusion of individuals with disabilities
Full understanding of why digital accessibility is important and impact on users with disabilities
Knowledge and understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and surrounding legal framework, e.g., Section 508 Compliance, state laws, etc.
Experience with software testing and different types of manual testing techniques and tools including assistive technology (JAWS), mobile and responsive
Agile methodology and ability to assist with backlog prioritization and traceability to WCAG conformance criteria.

$43.88 - $55.05 Hourly
