- Supports the execution of activities and events that are part of the activity programming for residents.
- Assures supplies and equipment are available for each activity.
- May assist in transporting residents living in licensed areas to and from activity functions.
- Leads group activities and one-to-one visits as indicated.
- May utilize computer technology.
- Promotes and maintains a positive atmosphere of warmth and calmness.
- Organizes and assists with special outings.
- Assists with planning and decorating for small and large events, holiday gatherings and weekly activities.
- May teach craft and activity classes.
- Follows infection control practices, as required.
- Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.
- Able to handle stress and get along with others within the workplace and with customers outside the department.
- Maintain acceptable standards of workplace conduct.
- This position requires the level of education typically acquired by a course of study leading to a high school diploma or GED.
- Previous experience working/volunteering with the elderly is preferred.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to type with basic keyboarding skills.
- Basic level computer skills using Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet Explorer).
- Strong interpersonal, teamwork, customer service and problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational skills; ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Strong creativity skills.
- Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, handbooks and procedure manuals.
- Able to write simple sentences, paragraphs and correspondence.
- Able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to residents, family members, and other associates of the organization.
- Able to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
- Light Work – Exerting up to 20 lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position frequently.
- Frequently required to move about to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
- Must be able to exchange information and express oneself.
Activity Assistant in Assisted Living
Full-Time, 40 hours per week
Monday thru Friday OR Sunday thru Thursday, 8a-4:30p
JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for assisting, planning and conducting a variety of activity programs to meet physical, social, mental and spiritual needs of residents. Contributes to overall success of activity program. Responsible for following instructions and carrying out assignments properly. Supportive of Village mission, vision, values and service/hospitality (PRIDE) expectations. Completes training as required by policy.

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor settings.
May be exposed to all types of weather.
Occasional exposure to chemicals used in various activity/craft projects.
Expected to work weekends and holidays, as needed.
May be exposed to infectious diseases if working in a licensed area.
The associate is required to function around individuals with challenged mental capacities.
All associates may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/GIVEN
Receives direction from the VAL Activity Coordinator or VAL Administrator. May give direction to volunteers.
