Understand and enforce program expectations, policies and protocols to ensure a safe and respectful environment in al ignment with agency and funder protocols and guidelines
Creat e and implemen t effective and interesting age-appropriate lesson plans and curriculum that adhere to program goals
Collaborate around themes and special projects with program staff
Communicate with supervisor about any schedule and classroom modifications, behavioral or environmental issues
M odel and d emonstrate appropriate communication with all stakeholders of the program ( participants, families , staff and funders)
Assist participants in homework and provide them with tools to succeed in school
Assist with the organization and implementation of special outreach events, activities and projects
Ensur e safety of all participants
Create a nurturing and fostering atmosphere to learn and create a sense of belonging for participants
Secure classrooms and space used, at the end of program
Attend weekly staff meeting and complete professional development hours indicated at the time of hiring
Other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Enrollment in College in a related field (Education/Human Development/Sociology/Human Services—for at least two years
At least two (2) years of experience in leading and conducting activities for youth (preferably h igh s chool population /adolescent experience ) in after school or camp settings
Ability to support academic enrichment in Mathematics, Science, History, and English.
Strong interpersonal skills, including facilitation, conflict resolution and group management skills in working with groups of youth to engage them in discussions in the areas of program activities and current events
Ability to engage in positive, nurturing, and appropriately boundaried relationships with youth
Interest in developing and providing qualit y hand on inquiry-based projects on participant and community needs
Strong work ethic and professional demeanor and team-oriented attitude
Organized, self -motivated and effective time management skills
Ability to motivate participants to participate in activities and promote leadership skill development
Computer savvy and excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
Must be cleared of NYS DOH and DOE Fingerprinting Screening; NYS Clearance Review Background Check; 3 Reference Checks; physical examination with updated TB test.

Schedule: Part time; Monday through Thursday from 1 :30 -7:30pm
Site: Generation Q, Forest Hills, NY
Pay rate: $17.00-$19.00 per hour

Generation Q is one area of programming in our growing LGBTQ Youth Services division .
Generation Q is an LGBTQ+ y outh drop-in program for youth ages 13-18 and one afternoon of young adult programming. Regular drop in programming includes tutoring, creative expression , gamin g , Social Justice Leadership program and counseling services .
In addition to our regular drop-in program, LGBTQ Youth Services offers robust training and outreach to the Queens community and beyond. This training includes cultural competency , allyship and policy training for DOE schools, best practices training for other non-profit and for-profit institutions, anti-bullying training for students, and parental training for parents.
The ideal candidate will serve as a model for youth by providing an engaging and relational experience, while conducting activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, practice and implementation.
