The Early Childhood Educator Registry (Registry) is the legislated authority responsible for the certification of Early Childhood Educators (ECE) and ECE Assistants, the investigation of complaints regarding the competence and conduct of ECEs and ECE Assistants and the assessment and recommended approval of post-secondary early childhood education programs in British Columbia (BC).
The Intake Officer receives reports and complaints made to the Registry regarding the practice of ECEs and ECE Assistants, determines whether the information received meets the legislative threshold and refers matters to the Registry Investigator(s) for further investigation. This involves an ability to interpret and apply legislation, regulations, policy and the principles of administrative law. The outcome may result in immediate courses of action, including the suspension or cancellation of certifications. In such cases, the economic and professional position of individuals may be impacted and the nature of work may be confrontational and adversarial. The Intake Officer must be able to communicate effectively, remain focused on outcomes and legislative requirements, convey information that may not be welcomed by the recipient and maintain the respect of the community. The Intake Officer also manages the flow of matters between intake/investigation processes and provides ongoing administrative support to the Investigators.+
