      AI/ML Research Part-time Short Term Internship

What if you could apply your understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Large Language Model (LLM) prompting to increase efficiencies, decrease decision and execution time, and support those efforts now and in to the future?

      JCTM is seeking an AI/ML intern to assist ongoing organic innovation specifically in the realm of language modeling and processing. This intern should be highly professional, enthusiastic, motivated, and able to communicate well with our current employees while working as part of a team or on individual tasks. The intern should also be detail-oriented and demonstrate excellent organizational and administrative skills. As a JCTM Intern, you will be able to use your current knowledge, functional experience, and relevant skills to assist in developing solutions with immediate implications to our nation's warfighters.

      As a JCTM Intern on our team, you will research and develop best practices for prompt engineering in the context of defense contracting. This includes exploring various prompting techniques, analyzing their effectiveness, and developing user-friendly tools for prompt creation and optimization. You will investigate how LLMs can be used to support decision-making processes in defense contracting, such as information analysis, risk assessment, and scenario planning. You will develop educational resources and training programs on LLM technology and its applications for the defense contracting workforce. This may involve creating interactive modules, designing workshops, and delivering training sessions. You will also design user interfaces and develop data visualization tools that enable effective interaction with LLM models and facilitate the interpretation of their results. Responsibilities include:
      • Conduct research on relevant LLM technologies and applications.
      • Develop and implement prototypes of LLM-based solutions for specific defense contracting tasks.
      • Analyze and evaluate the performance of LLM models.
      • Design and develop user interfaces and data visualization tools for LLM applications.
      • Create educational resources and training materials on LLM technology.
      • Present findings and recommendations to project stakeholders.
      • Contribute to the development of best practices and standard operating procedures for LLM use in defense contracting.

      Required:
      • Authorized to work in the U.S.
      • Currently enrolled in a Master's or PhD program in Computer Science, Engineering, Education, or related field.
      • Strong understanding of natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning (ML) concepts.
      • At least 1 year of experience with LLM technology and applications.
      • Excellent programming skills (e.g., Python, Java).
      • Experience with user interface design and data visualization tools.
      • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
      • Excellent communication and writing skills.
      • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
      • Must be eligible to obtain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance.

      Additional Desired:
      • Experience with prompt engineering techniques.
      • Knowledge of defense contracting processes and challenges.
      • Experience with educational software development.
      • Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure).

      Clearance:

      Applicants selected will be subject to a background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for JCTM security office suitability for internship related work.
