      Job Description

      Duties/Physical Demands:

Outside readers are trained by Miami University Office of Admission staff to review applications for first year undergraduate admission to Miami. They are assigned files that meet pre-set academic standards (standardized test scores and class rank or grade point average) that are determined by the Admission Director prior to the start of the review. The applications are assigned to electronic files that the readers access from their computer. The reader does a complete, full file review of each application. The reader checks the accuracy of the data, reads the letters of recommendation, essays and all other submitted materials. The reader then analyzes and scores the strength of the curriculum and reviews the student’s contextual factors using a curriculum review grid (the grid is a guide utilized by all admission readers to gauge the strength of a student’s curriculum and to note any significant details about the context of the applicant). The curriculum score is recorded on the online data form along with EER (essay, extracurricular activities and recommendation) notations. The reader then assigns the application to a decision bin based on the criteria of the year’s review guide. If there are any complications or issues that prevent the reader from sending the file to a decision bin, the reader will place it in a bin for further review by senior admission staff. This process continues throughout the review cycle (September – March.)

      Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or 15+ years of application review experience.

      Preferred Qualifications:

Must commit to reading a minimum of 6 application per hour, each hour that is worked.
