- Essential work includes reading, evaluating, and summarizing components of student applications (such as evaluating academic preparation, various extracurricular, leadership, and work experiences; assessing students’ writing and essays; and identifying the strengths, talents, and potential of prospective students).
- Specialists will be expected to analyze the quality and depth of student experiences and accomplishments within the context of individual students’ opportunities and will appreciate and summarize students’ individual circumstances.
- ARS must have excellent time management, critical thinking, reading comprehension, analysis, and communication skills and must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- ARS must be comfortable learning new technology systems as well as engaging over video conference platforms.
- Extensive training is provided.
- While assigned reading times will vary throughout the cycle, ARS must be able to work at least 10 hours of assigned reading shifts each week from December 1 through March 1 (excluding holidays).
- ARS will be reviewing applications in real time over video conference with Admissions staff members each day, with shifts occurring from 8:30 am to 12 pm and/or 1 pm to 5pm Central Standard Time.
- Selected candidates are expected to attend all training sessions, with the anticipated dates of December 10-12, 2024.
- Applicants with international experience may be considered for additional duties with accelerated start and training dates (October 2024), and alternative reading schedules.
- Application Review Specialists will have the opportunity to extend their position into early April for Transfer Application Review.
- Bachelor's degree or higher.
- Able to attend mandatory training sessions and team meetings.
- Able to fulfill weekly scheduled reading commitments.
- Access to a computer with an internet connection.
- Willing to read first-year applications exclusively for WashU between December 2024 and March 2025
- Preferred two plus years of job-related work experience including reviewing applications for admission and/or employment. Experience with holistic and/or selective admissions practices are a plus.

To avoid potential conflicts of interest, ARS may not be the parent or guardian of a high school student who is applying to college in the 2024-2025 application cycle. Additionally, ARS may not be currently employed in a college admissions-related role at a high school or another higher education institution, nor work in any capacity (independently or with an organization) that provides individual or personal college counseling.
