Job Description

- Regularly meet with employers, community organizations, business and industry, and members of government to expose them to NorQuest’s research services and supports.
- Respond to requests for research consultations and services that are often ambiguous in nature and may be less than a year or multi-year.
- Work with partners to develop research projects and submit research proposals for funding.
- Perform quality assurance with customers prior to, during, and after research events, activities, or projects.
- Effectively use NorQuest’s customer relationship management software to plan, track and close training activities with corporate customers.
- Work with the Vice Dean and other Faculty leadership at the college to identify new and prospective research clients.
- Synthesize information received from prospective clients, contributors, and existing published research literature and create solution-based research funding proposals.
- Work with NorQuest’s researchers and leaders to understand research interest in order to develop proposals that provide clear explanations of research activities and services to clients.
- Prepare budgets for intermediate and complex research projects valued up to $10,000,000.
- Identify non-credit research workshops, courses, programs, or mentorship opportunities for consideration of creation for delivery through regularly scheduled offerings through Continued Education.
- Prepare all documents for input into the Research Office’s and funding organizations’ electronic and hard copy records management systems.
- Record progress with both prospective clients, and those clients with whom the department is delivering services using the college’s relationship management system.
- Master’s Degree in a field related to NorQuest College’s programming areas. PhD is preferred.
- 3+ years' related work experience.
- Strong critical thinking skills, with the ability to receive ambiguous requests and identify how to acquire and provide services that meet the requirements.
- Ability to anticipate and communicate risks and opportunities, evaluate strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats related to development or delivery of research services.
- Experience creating and working within budgets.
- Ability to read, interpret, and act on financial reports.
- Excellent listening and summarization skills, with the ability to communicate in writing to contributors, clients, subject matter experts, and funders.
- Adept in finding trends in research requests and acting on opportunities to increase research services provided.
- Time management and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workloads based on order and value of requests and timelines outlined in RFPs.

FACULTY OF BUSINESS, ENVIRONMENT, AND TECHNOLOGY

Reporting to the Vice Dean, Faculty of Business, Environment, and Technology, the Business Development Officer works to increase the impact on learners, corporate clients, local community organizations, businesses, and industries throughout Edmonton and Alberta by growing the list of organizations that require and purchase research services related to the College's inventory of research skills and expertise, specifically related to business, environment, technology, hospitality, and culinary.
Through in-person connections with prospective clients, the Business Development Officer determines scope and scale of research required, identifying funding opportunities and developing proposals for research projects that range from intermediate to high levels of complexity for corporate, public sector, government, and community-based organizations. Exploration of opportunities to sustain corporate research relationships and preparation of proposals and contracts in alignment with Faculty and College procedures will ensure success and profitability while complying with legal and financial obligations of the College to our researchers, customers, stakeholders, and community.
