Managing the Area Procurement team. This includes majority of the team members based in Cape Town with a few in other locations
Develop category strategies for the key categories largest being the transport category strategy
Performing continuous improvement on supplier market analytics, organising market intelligence and creating a competitive edge for Maersk’s book of business through creating effective supply chains
Ensure sourcing is conducted to the expectations of the Maersk procurement process and in line with the” Six Sourcing Steps”
Enable sustainable and profitable growth through best-in-class sourcing, optimizing operational behaviours and supplier innovation
Develop and oversee the realization of the procurement game plan for existing, new, OPEX and CAPEX spend
Manage vendor relationships including performance management on a strategic level
Leading negotiations, holding senior relationships, and coordinating the right Service Level Agreements (SLA) between Maersk and its suppliers
Manage the performance and build capabilities of the Area Procurement team and individual team members
Facilitate the personal and functional development of the Area Procurement team and the individual team members
Govern the One Maersk mindset. Act as a point of escalation relating to dispute and issue resolution
Working closely in a Matrix organization that involves harmonizing Area Procurement efforts with working closely with the Regional Procurement and Centre Procurement teams in close collaboration
Partner with the Area Product, Sales, Customer Service, Operations, and Finance teams on long term game plans, including growth projects and ensuring alignment between costs, commercial needs, customer experience and operational execution
Driving a strong digital footprint and agenda within the supplier engagements and Area business plans
Expected travel to strategic vendor sites, owned sites and other areas of strategic relevance in Southern Africa
At least 10 years’ experience in managing Logistics and Supply chain products and/or Procurement
Strong knowledge and experience in Logistics (transport and contact logistics)
Experience in and knowledge of the South African logistics industry would be advantageous
Strong experience in leading teams
Strong stakeholder management experience and capability
Excellent verbal and written English
Awareness of cost drivers will be highly valued in the selection process
Excellent communication & interpersonal skills, through the incumbent will engage a broad range of colleagues and stakeholders locally, regionally, and globally
Experienced negotiator with a solid track record within various environments and across multiple geographies
Continuous improvement mindset
Experience in Transformation would be an advantage

The Regional India, Middle East, and Africa (IMEA) Logistics and Services (L&S) Procurement team is looking for a Procurement Leader for its Southern Africa and Indian Ocean Islands (SAI) Area who will play a key role in the delivery and execution of the Area Business plan towards integration of our customers’ supply chain. The incumbent will manage the Area Procurement team in charge of developing and executing the area Procurement strategy in strategic alignment with the Area Leadership Team as well as Regional and Global Procurement Teams.
