Essential Job Functions: The ideal candidate will scan history records each morning and work the reference desk each afternoon. Assist walk-in patrons with information related to specific history topics and monitor reading rooms. Provide copies in digital and paper format for patrons requesting duplication of materials. Upload and download digital images to the master scan cloud storage system. Maintains and creates new directories and files contained on the cloud storage system. Uses Photoshop to guarantee high quality digital images in the scanning and duplication process. Assist the library archivist in the arrangement and description of unprocessed archival collections. Assists professional staff in the arrangement and description of archives and manuscript collections; assists archivist in creating, updating, and filing finding aids; under supervision, performs research and composes correspondence to answer mail and telephone requests; provides reference assistance to patrons dealing with archives, Texas history, and genealogy; assist patrons with the use of microfilm collections; supervises and coordinates the library's volunteer program, assisting with volunteer training, assist with other archival projects such as outreach programs, including exhibits.
Reference Desk duties include: answering reference telephone, e-mail, and letter requests from patrons interested in the history of Beaumont and Texas via book and archival collections.
Scanning duties include: the scanning of archival collections for inclusion onto the library’s digital portal site.

Works in a normal public library environment; must be available to work Monday through Friday varying hours and occasional weekends; requires occasional lifting of archival boxes (up to 25 lbs.); exposed to hazards of dust/mites; requires stooping, bending, climbing, lifting and standing.
Knowledge: Knowledge of archives and library procedures; knowledge and interest in archives and manuscript collections, Texas history, and genealogy desired; knowledge of computer word processing and data entry.
Skills/Abilities: Knowledge and experience working with large-bed and planetary scanners and Photoshop software. Experience in scanning multi-media materials (such as photographs, negative slides, color transparencies, bound scrapbooks and ledgers, and oversized maps). And the ability to create box/folder inventory lists using the Harvard spreadsheet for upload into an ArchivesSpace finding aid. Ability to communicate with the public and city personnel in a tactful and effective manner; ability to follow written and oral instructions; ability to operate modern office equipment, including computer; skills in maintaining library and archival records; skills in computer word processing and data entry; skills in alphabetizing and arithmetic calculations; ability to supervise a small group of employees or volunteers.
Physical Requirements: Constantly sees and hears; frequently kneels, stands, stoops, sits, walks; Infrequently writes by hand, types, files, sorts, operates a calculator; carries, holds, lifts, drags, and pulls objects weighing up to 25 lbs., squats and twists body.
Education/Experience: Requires B.A. degree in history or related field with demonstrated skill in historical research. Minimum six months experience in archival field desirable.
