What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Represent the Department of Children, Youth, and Families in child welfare cases, including dependency and termination of parental rights
- Evaluate evidence and apply relevant laws, including the Indian Child Welfare Act, to juvenile cases
- Prepare legal documents, consult with agency employees, and manage discovery processes
- Communicate with attorneys and guardians ad litem to resolve case-related issues
- Conduct legal research and prepare for hearings or trials
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school or completion of the WSBA's Rule 6 Law Clerk Program
- Licensed to practice law in Washington State, or actively pursuing admission by motion
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced litigation environment and manage a significant case load
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with client agency representatives and colleagues
- Demonstrated commitment to public service and ethical legal practice
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience in child welfare or juvenile law
- Background in public interest law or advocacy
- Familiarity with Washington State legal practices and regulations
- Multilingual abilities to better serve diverse communities
- Participation in community service or public service initiatives
