- F ollow Good Manufacturing Procedures (cGMP) using standard operating procedures, USP, EP and EPA monographs, UIHC PDMU or client supplied methods to perform analytical processes.
- Update existing or write new operating procedures (SOPs) for routine to moderately difficult standard.
- Perform routine to moderately difficult equipment maintenance and calibration
- Follow regulations and procedures for handling and recording raw materials, including hazardous/regulated chemicals.
- Conduct and oversee the setup, operation, cleaning and troubleshooting of manufacturing systems with a high degree of proficiency using established procedures and working under a moderate level of supervision.
- Perform:
- GC, HPLC, IC, MCA, and TLC analysis on cleaning validation, dissolution, QC, and stability samples
- GC, HPLC, IC, MCA, TLC, and other method development and validation.
- USP monograph testing
- Technology transfers of methods between laboratories
- Read methods/prepare samples/document all procedures
- Diagnose and resolve laboratory equipment, testing procedure, and system malfunctions
- Check reports for accuracy and completeness for projects performed.
- Review notebooks /calculations/documentation for accuracy and completeness according to laboratory norms.
- Verify the laboratory contains proper reagents, reference materials and equipment to complete testing.
- Calculate results obtained in analyses using software packages associated with the instrumentation or spreadsheets.
- Write and revise analytical methods.
- Provide technical and regulatory support to staff for instrumentation, software and analytical problems.
- Train analysts and other personnel on equipment and GC, HPLC, IC, MCA, and TLC methods
- Communicate need to order supplies or equipment.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a science with emphasis on analytical chemistry, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a similar type of laboratory.
- Experience (typically 3-5 years) performing laboratory testing in a regulated environment including:
- A nalytical chemistry (UV-Vis spectroscopy, FTIR, pH, moisture determination, titrations, etc.)
- High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) or Gas Chromatography (GC) with associated software packages used in pharmaceutical quality control or similar industry
- Laboratory testing including the ability to independently troubleshoot analytical method and instrumentation issues
- Documentation of analytical results in a regulated environment

- Experience (typically 1-2 years) performing and troubleshooting:
- GC, HPLC, IC, MCA, and TLC with associated software packages used in pharmaceutical quality control or similar industry
- Experience and/or knowledge of:
- Current Good Manufacturing (cGMP) or similar regulations,University of Iowa Environmental Health and Safety chemical inventory system.United States Pharmacopeia (USP) and European Pharmacopeia (EP) training.

The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics department of Radiology PET is seeking a Chemist Assistant to be responsible for qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses of raw materials, in-process samples and finished product. Perform analyses using a combination of wet chemistry techniques and analytical instrumentation in accordance to FDA current Good Manufacturing (cGMP) using standard operating procedures, USP, EP and FCC monographs, UIHC PDMU or client supplied methods. Develop methods for qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished product.
