What to Expect (Job Responsibilities):
- Independently manage all aspects of both affirmative and defensive civil litigation, including motions practice, discovery, trial, and appellate work
- Collaborate with a team to develop strategies for various substantive areas of law
- Represent the City in complex litigation matters involving constitutional and municipal law
- Handle high-profile cases that require effective representation of elected officials and public interests
- Engage in proactive City initiatives and provide client advice on emerging legal issues
What is Required (Qualifications):
- Membership in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association or licensure in another state with the ability to obtain Washington membership within 2 months of employment
- Expertise in municipal or government-related law
- Proven ability to first-chair complex litigation in state and federal court
- Demonstrated effective and independent litigation skills
- Strong research, writing, and communication skills

- Ability to handle novel legal issues and emerging areas of law
- Proven track record of effectively representing high-profile clients
- Comfort with managing a varied caseload with public significance
