- Assist in planning, preparation, service in large quantities, and clean up in the school service food program.
- Assist in operating and cleaning all kitchen equipment, cooler and freezer.
- Assist in inspecting equipment for cleanliness and functional operation and kitchen safety.
- Assist in performing cooking duties with other workers.
- Assist in performing physically demanding work – including routine lifting of up to 40 lbs and frequent time in cooler and freezer.
- Assist in storing food and supplies and takes inventory.
- Attend food service meetings and workshops in conjunction with food service training
- High school graduate or general education degree (GED); and three to five years of experience in quantity cooking and various cooking procedures; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to employees of the school. Must do daily record keeping in the daily menu record book for breakfast and lunch, follow standardized recipes, menus and portion controls.
- Ability to accurately add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must be able to accurately complete recipe conversions to quantities needed. Must be able to read & write in English.
- Must be reliable, punctual, dependable, maintain good personal hygiene and have a positive, team player attitude.
- Must obtain food handlers permit within 14 days of employment and maintain current card status thereafter.
- Must be able to operate various pieces of office equipment, i.e., copy machines, typewriters, computers, etc.
- Must be able to stand, talk or hear, taste or smell. Must be able to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands/arms. Occasionally required to walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, or stand for long periods of time in one place.
- Must be able to frequently lift/move objects weighing up to 40 lbs and occasionally lift/move objects weighing up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
- Excellent attendance and punctuality.
