      This position will assigned to the Collections Program.

      The City of Albuquerque’s Department of Arts & Culture is seeking a skilled and motivated museum professional to serve as Assistant Curator of Collections at the Albuquerque Museum. This dynamic role is central to preserving and showcasing the Museum’s growing art, history, and photography collections. From hands-on care and preventive conservation to exhibition preparation and environmental monitoring, the Assistant Curator of Collections helps bring extraordinary objects to the public eye. This is an exciting opportunity for a collections professional dedicated to excellence in stewardship and exhibition support.

      Plan, coordinate and implement a variety of museum exhibition concepts, public programs, scholarly and popular publications and public presentation on behalf of the Museum. Assist and participate with the development of independent projects including exhibitions, lectures, and installations of the permanent collection; coordinate assigned activities with other divisions, outside agencies and the public and provide highly responsible and complex staff assistance to higher level management staff.

      Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

      Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in art history, fine/studio Art, history, American studies, cultural studies, or ethnic studies, or related field; and

      Three (3) years of experience working in an arts and culture environment such as museum, educational institution, or community-based organization; and

      To include one (1) year of supervisory or lead experience.


      When assigned to the Collections Program:
      Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in art history, studio/fine art, American studies, cultural studies, ethnic studies, art administration, history, museum studies or related field; and

      Three (3) years of experience working in a museum, gallery, or similar exhibiting institution to include one (1) year of art and/or object handling; and

      To include one (1) year of supervisory or lead experience.

      ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

      Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License or the ability to obtain within ninety (90) days from date of hire.

      Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.

      • Modern office procedures, methods and equipment including computers
      • Operational characteristics of equipment and tools relative to assigned area
      • Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations
      • Develop a wide variety of educational museum program
      • Propose and develop exhibition and catalogues and other printed materials
      • Work effectively with staff, community organizations, educational groups and the public
