      Job Summary

      The Assistant Director of Development in the College of Law is responsible for identifying, building relationships and advancing gifts at the leadership annual giving level, $5,000-$49,999 and up with a portfolio of assigned prospects, coordinating with the WVU Foundation’s Annual Giving program on the annual plan, donor stewardship and coordinating prospect/donor visits to campus.

      Duties and Responsibilities

      Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

      Execute qualifying discussions to define philanthropic aspirations of individuals, corporations, and foundations identified by the WVU Foundation Prospect Discovery and Strategy program at the leadership annual giving level, a capacity of $5,000 - $49,999.

      Manage a portfolio of leadership annual giving donors and prospects, as defined by working with the WVU Foundation, through qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.

      Plan, schedule, and complete travel, mostly regional with some overnight, to contact prospects and donors in completion of portfolio/pipeline management.

      Maintain a comprehensive working knowledge of the College and University, including mission, history, and current fundraising priorities assuring effective representation of all opportunities and priorities for private support.

      Build and manage a network of relationships with prospective donors involving University and College leadership, faculty and volunteers. Facilitate and coordinate all communication with these prospects and among the prospect’s campus relationships.

      Partner with the College’s departments to execute annual corporate and foundation solicitations including for event sponsorships (for example recruiting events).

      Coordinate with the Foundation’s Annual Giving program to prepare materials for the RNL synergy plan, Day of Giving and annual giving level projects.

      Coordinate with the Foundation’s Donor Relations program to develop and execute personalized stewardship plans for select donors and prospects as agreed upon at the College level.

      In conjunction with the Executive Director of Development coordinate the nomination process for various recognitions, such as the Order of Vandalia, Academy of Distinguished Alumni, Departmental Academies, Honorary Degree, Mountaineer Week Most Loyals, Homecoming Awards, among others.

      Work with the College student groups/project teams to identify funding opportunities and guide them through the annual giving/crowdfunding process.

      Plan, host events and provide assistance for on campus events where prospects and donors are the primary audience including but not limited to donor/prospect site visits, Alumni Academies, Career Fairs (alumni and corporate partner hosting), Homecoming, Emeriti luncheon, managing tickets to WVU sporting events from College and Foundation resources.

      Comply with all WVU Foundation reporting and accountability standards and coordinate development efforts with University Units development staff as needed.

      Complete additional assignments as may be required by the supervisor, other Foundation senior management or the College’s Dean as appropriate.

      Qualifications

      Education, Experience and Competencies:

      Education and/or Experience

      Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree. A minimum of 1 year of direct and progressively responsible experience in major/planned gift fundraising or other employment involving similar direct client engagement is required.

      Computer Skills

      Proficiency in computer and internet usage is necessary. Ability to accurately enter data into a database and recall information through reports is necessary.

      Physical Demands

      Air travel may be required. A valid driver’s license is required.
