      Position Summary

      The Meyer Cancer Center (MCC) at Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM) seeks an Assistant Director of Research Development. This role is critical for supporting a collaborative environment of research excellence in alignment with strategic initiatives that support NCI designation efforts.

      Key functions of the Assistant Director role include programmatic development, administration of pilot funding programs, shared resource oversight, and overall responsibility for enhancing research organization and infrastructure. This role will be an integral part of NCI designation efforts, leading the planning and evaluation process for NCI designation. The role will work closely with MCC leadership as well as hospital and college stakeholders. This role reports to the MCC Director of Administration and Innovation and serves as a key member of the MCC leadership team.

      Job Responsibilities

      • Develop cross disciplinary research opportunities and collaborative research among MCC members through organization of retreats, symposia, program meetings, and working groups.
      • Manage and direct MCC intramural pilot grant programs, including proposal solicitation process, selection process and post award management.
      • Oversee the cancer center shared resources (research cores) for P30 compliance and usage by cancer center members.
      • Collaborate with Associate Dean for Research to evaluate value of shared resources, address gaps, eliminate underutilized resources, and develop new resources as necessary.
      • Lead Center-wide planning and evaluation, including annual Internal Advisory Board meetings and annual External Science Advisory Board meetings (n=15 national/international cancer experts).
      • Analyze required cancer center data and documents in advance of board meetings; coordinate with cancer center faculty to ensure their board presentations are concise, cohesive, and accurate.
      • Analyze MCC membership annually to determine if research programs and shared research resources are meeting members’ needs.
      • Participate as a key member of MCC Senior Leadership Meetings.
      • Develop informatics systems to process, categorize and track required P30 data, including therapeutic/non-therapeutic clinical trial accruals, cancer-related research funding base, and shared resource usage.
      • Provide strategic guidance to cancer center members in the preparation for and submission of complex multi-investigator awards (P01/SPORE/UM-1/U10).
      • Oversee the management of research initiatives related to philanthropic funding, such as PICI, and large multi-investigator and center grants, such as P01s/U54s/SPOREs.
      • Performs other responsibilities as needed

      Education

      • Bachelor's Degree

    Experience

    • Advanced degree desired, preferably in cancer-related area.
    • Prior experience participating in grant management or research administration at an NCI-designated center.
    • Prior experience in grant submissions.
    • 5 years of related experience in research management role.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Direct familiarity with P30 grant guidelines, processes, and expectations.
