An Engineer at the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (Metropolitan) can expect to work on some of the largest water treatment, storage, conveyance, distribution and recycling projects in the world. We deliver an average of 1.5 billion gallons of high quality water per day to a 5,200-square-mile service area in Southern California for 19 million people.
Assistant Engineer I candidates for the positions listed below will work with engineers, project managers, construction managers, contract developers and administrators, water system operations staff, and technical specialists under direct supervision in an exciting and dynamic environment while learning and assisting from the best within the water industry.
Currently, our Engineering Service Group has six (6) openings for an Assistant Engineer I on various teams listed below. These positions are with the Construction Contracts Team, Corrosion Engineering Team, Equipment Design Team, Facility Design Team, General Design Team and Power Design Team. Y ou must apply separately for each positio n. These entry-level professional engineering positions are located at Metropolitan’s offices in downtown Los Angeles or La Verne, California.
Corrosion Engineering Team
Provides condition assessments and conducts infrastructure reliability evaluation using principles of materials, metallurgy and engineering mechanics to ensure system reliability, operation safety and regulatory compliance. The successful applicant will learn and assist with designing and implementing measures to prevent failure or rehabilitate assets, testing and monitoring of instrumentation programs, and performing forensic investigations of materials and metallurgy issues.
An Assistant Engineer I on the Corrosion Engineering Team will assist with engineering tasks related to infrastructure condition, regulatory, and reliability assessments, non-destructive testing, failure analysis, materials performance testing and studies, designing and implementing measures to prevent failure or rehabilitate infrastructure, and infrastructure fabrication inspections. Both office and fieldwork will be required.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field by hired date.
Related Field is defined as: A degree in a related field: Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mechanical, Chemical, Materials Science Engineering
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS License(s): Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.
