      Description and Qualifications

      The Assistant Farmstead Manager is responsible for overseeing all processes involving crop production, the care and feeding of animals, dairy production, overall look, tours involving the Farmstead, and day-to-day operations of the dairy, livestock, pastures, garden, and kennel as instructed by the Farmstead Manager.

      ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

      • Under guidance of Farmstead Manager, oversees the starting of seeds, planting of crops, maintaining of fields, and weeding and cultivation of plants
      • Responsible for the identification of pest problems (insects/diseases) and communicating to the Farmstead Manager
      • Under guidance of Farmstead Manager, oversees the maintenance of garden equipment and bed preparation
      • Gives special attention to harvesting produce at the proper stage of maturity and in the correct manner
      • Communicates with the culinary team on upcoming supply and demand
      • Under guidance of Farmstead Manager, oversees care of all livestock including but not limited to sheep, donkeys, chickens, turkeys, and pigs
      • Ensures team is following schedules for overseeding, mastitis checks, milk samples, and pasture rotation
      • Understands and executes livestock feeding methods and techniques as instructed by the Farmstead Manager
      • Participates in milking operations and ensures the team follows the best practices of this as laid out by the Farmstead Manager
      • Understands and promotes sanitation procedures with all Farmstead Technicians
      • Administers livestock medications as needed
      • Ensures compliance of all State of TN Livestock, FDA/TDA standards & requirements
      • Responsible for identification of dog reproductive signs and problems and communicating to Farmstead Manager
      • Under guidance of Farmstead Manager, oversees with training team members in our farming practices, dog care, maintenance duties, and safety procedures
      • Takes and implements project lists from Farmstead Manager
      • Enforces policies when appropriate
      • Coordinates schedule needs of staff and monitors & approves hours worked as needed by the Farmstead Manager
      • Operates a motor vehicle to transport materials and equipment, as appropriate to the position
      • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
      • Ensures tidiness of Farmstead buildings is up to standard
      • Helps to ensure and maintain the guest-facing look of our farmstead areas by maintaining neat and orderly spaces before, during, and after farm work.
      • Maintains an inventory of supplies and feed
      • Maintains the budget for the Farmstead operation areas as needed
      • Maintains appropriate records about the farm operations
      • Ensures all feeding, milking, and garden watering schedules are covered
      • Interacts with guests, including monitoring the tours led by the Farmstead
      • Assists with maintenance and repairs of farm areas
      • Promotes Farmstead program via e-mail, external marketing materials, and internal newsletters as needed
      • Interviews new team members as needed
      • Assists in day-to-day labor operations as needed, including but not limited to watering, weeding, harvesting, staking, composting, transplanting, feeding, cleaning, and mowing/bushogging

      Must comply with all company policies and procedures.

      Regular and consistent attendance is required to perform the essential functions of this position.

      Must be able to work well with other Team Members, Managers, and interact with our guests.

      SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

      • Directly manages the Farmstead Technicians, Master Gardener, and Dog Trainer
      • Oversees the training, development, and performance of team members

      EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

      • High school diploma or equivalent
      • Two years experience or equivalent coursework in multiple facets of agriculture

      LANGUAGE SKILLS

      • Must have excellent verbal & written skills
      • Must be able to communicate effectively with guests, managers, and team members

      MATHEMATICAL ABILITY

      • Basic knowledge and understanding of math

      REASONING ABILITY

      • Must be able to exercise judgment and make decisions based on job knowledge and awareness of company goals

      PHYSICAL DEMANDS

      • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
      • Must be able to stand for the majority of shift
      • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
      • Must be able to operate a golf cart or company vehicle safely
