Job Description

- Manage and drive strategy for a variety of litigation and pre-litigation matters, including commercial disputes, collections, class actions, intellectual property (primarily trademark), real estate, bankruptcy and support for compliance, claims, labor and employment and any other matter that carries litigation risk.
- Actively manage Hub Group’s portfolio of outside counsel and partner with each on strategy, efficiency, budgeting and staffing.
- Advise cross-functional teams and internal stakeholders on litigation strategy, process improvement to reduce risk, and creative approaches to managing risk and resolving disputes.
- Effectively negotiate settlements when appropriate.
- Responsible for managing all aspects of discovery, including continuous collaboration with IT on e-discovery and ways to improve Hub Group’s e-discovery platform.
- Conduct efficient legal research and review and draft legal letters, pleadings, briefs, memos, presentations and other written deliverables in a strong, succinct and efficient manner.
- Advise on regulatory compliance matters, including keeping current with changes in laws and procedures that impact Hub Group and leading select regulatory initiatives.
- Assist with internal investigations as needed.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships and a thorough understanding of Hub Group’s operations and business strategies as well as the industry as a whole.
- Project manage continuous improvement initiatives and other special projects.
- JD from an accredited US law school.
- Licensed in the state of Illinois (or other state/s) and a member in good standing.
- Minimum of 8 years of litigation experience, preferably at a sophisticated law firm combined with in-house experience.
- Experience in the transportation sector a plus.
- Proven ability to balance legal risks and commercial goals with a good business sense.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Desire to be involved in key projects that have a significant impact on Hub Group’s business.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities as well as flexibility to adapt to change with new systems and methods while working in a team environment.
- Highly motivated, proactive self-starter with excellent judgment and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in computer skills, including Outlook and MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Hub Group is seeking a highly motivated, skilled, and experienced litigation attorney with a strong dedication to legal excellence to join our team at our headquarters in Oak Brook, Illinois. The successful candidate will report to the Chief Legal Officer and will strategically and cost-effectively manage a complex and diverse commercial litigation portfolio. The Assistant General Counsel – Litigation will collaborate with the rest of the legal team and the various business units to strategically manage litigation risk across the company, including developing core strategies for reducing vulnerability. The ideal candidate will be professional, self-driven, highly analytical, efficient, creative and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
