      Job summary

      An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the dynamic Medical Photography Department at North Bristol NHS Trust

      Assistant Medical Photographer Band 4 1.0 WTE - 18 months fixed term

      Would you like to start, or develop, your career in medical photography in a dynamic, supportive team based in the state-of-the-art medical photography facility in the Brunel Building.

      We are seeking a compassionate, motivated individual with a HND / NVQ level 4 or foundation degree in photography, or equivalent relevant professional experience.

      The Medical Photography department provides a critical service supporting excellent care across the Trust and you will be delivering a high-quality service including medical photography (studio/ward/clinic) and ophthalmic photography. Excellent communication interpersonal skills, and a thorough understanding of image management / digital technology is essential.

      You will support the department using your photography and image management skills to enable clinical decision making and care. You will work with the medical photographers to deliver the service and maintain the IMI QAS level 2.

      You will be able to demonstrate an ability to work independently, and with the team, to agreed timelines.

      Main duties of the job

      • Undertake medical photography under the direction of the medical photographers and in accordance with local practice / policies.

      • To support the medical photography and illustration department, with responsibility for image management within the Medical Image Management System (MIMS) and Job Management System (JMS) databases.

      • To deliver a service in line with the departmental and Trust guidelines, abiding by all consent,confidentiality, and legal guidelines.

      • To provide a photographic support service for non-clinical activities undertaken by the Trust following national and local standards.

      • To support the multi-skilling work within the department to ensure an efficient service is delivered in line with departmental service level agreements.

      Medical photography is a dynamic, supportive, caring team supporting the delivery of care across the entire Trust.

      As a member of the team you will form an integral part in the patients's care pathway providing vital information, in the form of photographs and video of patients to help clinicians diagnose and monitor patients progress.

      As a team we also support research, quality improvement and service evaluation through both data capture but also supporting the dissemination of findings through our poster printing service.

      Job description

      Job responsibilities

      Image Management

      • File handling NEFF files to create standardised files, e.g. JPEGs, for uploading into the Medical Image Management System (MIMS)
      • Assess images provided to ensure appropriate medical photography views are uploaded to MIMS and corresponding consent level recorded.
      • Digital processing and finishing / printing of images from the Medical Image Management System (MIMS).
      • Processing and managing images provided by others, from out of hours services, for upload into MIMS
      • Accurate data entry and updates within the Job Management System (JMS)
      • Undertaking quality assurance checks within MIMS and JMS
      • When applicable, print to standard templates for Trust, police, solicitors, Crown Prosecution Service.

      Medical Photography

      • Working within the medical photography team, unsupervised, within standard
      • To provide a medical photography service, working unsupervised within departmental guidelines, adhering to standard views in studio or clinical environment where applicable.
      • Assess situations and assisting patients with dressing/undressing to ensure appropriate medical photography/video views are obtained.
      • Provide studio, out-patient, clinic, and ward photography, working independently within departmental guidelines, to meet the clinical needs of the department, adhering to SLAs and agreed timelines
      • To provide medical video, within departmental studio unsupervised, adhering to standard clinical video protocols / SOPs, adhering to SLAs and agreed timelines.

      Non-Medical Photography

      • Provide ophthalmic photography, adhering to SLAs and agreed timelines.
      • Provide non-medical photography service, e.g. staff boards and PR, adhering to standard views in studio or clinical environment where applicable.
      • Responsible for own actions working within department guidelines, policies and procedures.
      • Support the department in maintaining the quality assurance accreditation from the Institute of Medical Illustrators (IMI)
      • Ensuring all specialist photography equipment is always managed safely and securely.

      Media

      • Undertake public relations photography, including. in-house magazine, reports, research, and various associated projects.
      • Photography for exhibitions and displays, booklets and posters.
      • Staff group photography and presentations.
      • Portraiture of trust staff for various use
      • Non-medical photography for patient leaflets, teaching, research, posters etc.
      • Accurate data entry within the Job Management System (JMS)
      • Support income generation activities as appropriate

      • Monitor the poster workload and undertake poster printing ensuring jobs are completed and charged within appropriate timelines.

      • Maintain own competence within photography and associated information technology.
