- Relationship Management - Establish and nurture collaborative relationships at all levels across the University to maximise opportunities for advancement of strategic objectives for Pacific peoples. Develop strategic, mutually beneficial relationships with Pacific stakeholders, PVC Māori, government, enterprises, and community groups.
- Strategy, Planning and Development - Contribute to the development, planning and successful implementation of Pacific student success strategies and plans in alignment with Taumata Teitei and work collaboratively with the PVC – Pacific on operational oversight of programmes, initiatives and activities.
- Leadership - Advise and/or act on behalf of the Pro Vice-Chancellor Pacific on matters pertaining to Pacific students and staff in the University of Auckland, and in respect to Pacific communities within Auckland and the wider Pacific region.
- Continuous Improvement - Work collaboratively toward operational and strategic continuous improvement initiatives at a University level and throughout the division.

Te Tari o te Ihonuku Moana-nui-a-Kiwa, the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor Pacific (OPVCP) plays a leading role in the implementation of the University’s strategy concerning Pacific staff and students, issues and communities. It advises the Vice Chancellor and University leadership on Pacific peoples, communities and the Pacific whilst leading and supporting relationships between the University and Pacific staff, students, communities and the Pacific organisations.
An exciting opportunity has now arisen to appoint a new Assistant Pro Vice-Chancellor to Te Tari o te Ihonuku Moana-nui-a-Kiwa, the Office of the Pro Vice-Chancellor Pacific.
Job Description
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
Reporting directly to the Pro Vice Chancellor - Pacific, the Assistant Pro Vice Chancellor provides leadership and expert advice on matters relating to Pacific peoples, engages with Pacific communities both internally and external to the University of Auckland and deputises for the Pro Vice-Chancellor when required. The work of the Assistant Pro Vice Chancellor advances the aspirations of Taumata Teitei, the University’s strategic plan, and contributes to the success of Pacific staff and students.

You will need to demonstrate cultural capability in working with Pacific and Māori stakeholders and proven relationship management strengths, with clear evidence of your ability to build successful partnerships and operate as a leader within a high performing team.
This role requires someone with a can-do attitude and ability to take initiative and help drive forward programmes that contribute to the Pacific student pathway at Waipapa Taumata Rau.
Strong communication skills are essential, with verbal, written and inter-personal skills integral to success in this role. Working knowledge of a Pacific language is preferred.
