      JOB DESCRIPTION:
      The Academic Hospitalist will assist the Division of General Internal Medicine in its mission to provide safe, high quality care to our patients. Exact roles and responsibilities will be tailored to meet the strategic needs of the Division, Department and Health System.

      We anticipate the position to be set up as academic hospitalist service, with variable shifts, including but not limited to weekends, on call responsibilities, and back up availability in case of unexpected coverage gaps. The Academic Hospitalist will be 90% clinical for a total of 24 weeks of inpatient service split between the Surgical Co-Management Service, TDCJ Hospital wards, and Jennie Sealy Hospital wards

      Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, direct care of hospitalized patients, surgical co-management of patients, and possible staffing of an observation unit. Other responsibilities fall within the role of a traditional hospitalist, admitting and discharging patients, coordinating with care managers and social workers, etc.

      Additionally, the academic hospitalist may be called up on to staff a future perioperative medicine outpatient clinic, with consideration given to time spent on inpatient service. Other possible duties may include Emergency Room consults for admissions and proper placement onto a teaching or non-teaching service.


      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
      MD degree, Board certification or Board eligibility in Internal Medicine


      SALARY:
      Commensurate with experience.
