      ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY
      Assistant Professor of English

      ABOUT THIS POSITION

      Summary:
      The English Program at Colorado Mesa University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of English (Creative Writing). Candidates are expected to teach the department’s current offerings in first-year composition in addition to introductory creative writing and upper-division courses in writing poetry. The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester; some assigned courses may be taught on-line, hybrid, or via distance delivery modalities.

      ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

      Teach first-year composition.
      Teach creative writing offerings, particularly in poetry.
      Advise students.
      Provide meaningful service to the English program, department, university, and broader community.
      Contribute creative and/or scholarly work to the candidate’s discipline.

      Minimum Qualification Required:
      Ph.D. in English or related field, with a primary specialty in Creative Writing, emphasizing poetry. MFA in Creative Writing considered only with substantial poetry publication from a major press.
      Demonstrated ability to teach effectively.
      Successful experience teaching first-year university composition.
      Effective communication and organizational skills.
      Desire and ability to work collaboratively with university faculty and staff.
      Willingness and ability to serve as poetry editor for Pinyon, a journal focused on poetry.

      Preferred Qualifications:
      Experience teaching university-level creative writing courses.
      Demonstrated ability to manage a creative writing publication.
      Ph.D. in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing (poetry).
      Ability to teach British and American literature surveys or other English courses as assigned.
